BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Hungary's prime minister says the European Union's handling of migration is a failure and stricter policies are needed, as his country faces an unprecedented rise in illegal migrant arrivals.
The Hungarian government said Friday it would seek opinions about migration and terrorism in a 12-point questionnaire to be mailed to all Hungarians older than 18. (good decision)
Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in a letter accompanying the questionnaire that the growing number of "subsistence immigrants" was a "new type of threat which we must stop."
Speaking on state radio, Orban said that the current EU migration rules were "silly" and that EU countries needed to be given more latitude to enforce their own migration policies.
