As a straight guy, I'm more interested in the girls' answers, but guys can answer too :)

How much do looks matter to you?

Lately, I've been feeling down about how I look. I wear glasses and I'm starting to feel self-conscious about those, they don't look bad or anything but I feel like today stereotypes influence people's judgements. I don't think I'm particularly good-looking, but not ugly either.

Personality is most important . Youth , beauty , all it comes and past , but personality always stays same . :)

personality is more important, and its what ends up making you like someone or stay friends, but looks are kind of what people notice first. Good or bad.

This might sound bad but quite a bit for me after personality, but there's not a big gap, but who am I to judge.

50/50

I'll be attracted to you by your appearance.

When I find out your personality is shit, I'm gone, if you have a wonderful personality, I'm staying.

That's my take on it.

Looks matter to a certain degree, but personality counts for a lot more

looks are not important to me as much as as persons inner being; looks come and go, but a persons true self never changes and tells you so much about the type of person the are.

Doesn't matter much. What counts the most is how fun, clever, etc the person is. Look is only important in that it sometimes show if the person is neglecting itself.

Looks mean everything to me, but only as a first impression btw they don't have to be good looking necessarily just look interesting after the first impression looks mean nothing to me

I think it depends on what each person is looking for.

A. If you're just looking for a quick romp, then looks and superficial stuff.

B. If you're looking for a real relationship, then looks takes a backseat, and personality is more important.

So your answer isn't black and white, because it has to be put into context.

It also has to be put into geographical context as well, because if you're going to a party city, you'll encounter more people looking for scenario A rather than scenario B, and also it depends on the age range you're looking at as well.

Certain age groups are also looking for certain things because their doing the YOLO thing and aren't yet ready to settle down.

I feel like looks are important to some degree, I might add.
Especially as a teenager with all the hormones (from what I've experience and seen), teens tend to go for attractive people - unless their personality sucks.
Getting to know personality definitely makes or breaks a relationship.
This is a strange comparison, but imagine it like a fish and a worm on a hook. The fish sees it and swims over, this is like getting to know someone. The fish examines it to see if they like it. This is like getting to know the person you're attracted to physically. If the fish leaves, it doesn't like it. If the fish stays, it likes it. This is where personality comes in, when you get to know the person you find attracted to. Looks real you in. Personality can reel you in further, or it can pull you out.

That's how I see it.
Anyways, people are attracted to different types of people. I've meet people who are attracted to people I don't find attractive. It happens.

That's an amazing analysis. This must be saved and used to explain to future youth (maybe even in THE TALK) about what puberty and attraction are. If I ever become a parent I might use this analogy.

Do I have permission?

Glasses aren't always in the "un-sexy, unattractive" category.

Lots of girls have a thing for a guy in glasses.

You know something nobody is mentioning that probably matters to most people but they don't even know it?

Besides looks and personality, I have to enjoy the way my partner smells naturally without perfume or cologne or any other artificial mask scents.

Who else is with me on that last one?

So true. Yes, there are people who probably more people will find attractive, but people's taste varies a lot. There are two twins in my school, who everyone seems to find really attractive, and I just don't see it. Also, a friend of mine once showed me a picture of a girl, and she was talking about how she used to be cute but that then this and that happened and that she's weird now, but I thought it was one of the most attractive people I had ever seen.

I've been in those situation where friends are looking at yearbooks, and they're saying/asking "Isn't he/she so dreamy/hot?"

And my reaction in my head is "Meh if you say so", but verbally I just stay silent or play along and nod and change the subject.

It's so awkward!

Well in my opinion glasses are VERY attractive. Lol. Personality matters more to me. If most guys had a nice personality and didn't care about how the girl looked (no offense guys) then I'd probably still be attracted to them xD.

Being asexual I don't know what romantically would pull me in haha :D But I do find personalities to be important. You can be what society considers "ugly" (which in real life doesn't exist, screw Hollywood), but if you're hilarious, sarcastic, witty, sweet, etc, I'm lovin' ya ;)

I know you said you wanted mostly girls opinions, but I couldn't help but give you my opinion as a guy who likes other guys. First of all, guys in glasses are hot! I find guys who wear glasses to be very sexy. And secondly, I am much more interested in meeting guys who are nice, who have a good sense of humor, and who have a great personality rather than just judging a guy on looks alone.

For me have to be initially attracted to someone for it to work but what one person finds attractive another doesn't and personality matters more in the long run if your with someone who is very attractive but their personality stinks it wouldn't last long

I find a lot of girls end up falling for gay guys because they have that outgoing personality.

If a girl was cool enough looks wouldn't really matter as long as they work out and keep clean, but I want to be with a 10 sometime in life so I might cheat :/

I hate to be that guy, but looks are important, and everyone to some extent can improve their looks.

If I fell in love with a beautiful person who lost their looks, however, I wouldn't love them any less

Perhaps it is superficial of me, but I think looks are a big part (but not all) of the total package. Personality is important, but looks rank right up there too.

Everyone to some extent can improve their looks."Some extent" is a huge understatement. Eat healthy, exercise, take care of skin.

Three easy steps. It's just about making it a habit which should take like 1-2 months. After that keep up the new lifestyle for 1-2 years and then your pretty.

Everyone can look pretty with work and I think everyone that is pretty have worked for it. Very few are pretty without doing anything, but even naturals has to maintain their body or they turn ugly as well.

and if you see some hot guy and cry as you think to yourself "I can never get him because I'm ugly!!". Well change that. "But in 2 years when I am pretty, his probably already taken so what's the point in changing anyway?! ;-;".
Umm there is 7+ billion people in the world (and counting). He won't be your last crush.

Anyone who says that personality matters over looks, or that personality can compensate for lack of looks is lying through their teeth. (or keyboard)

Looks do matter for initial attraction but there has to be a good personality behind it.
I know guys who are physically very attractive but their personalty just makes them so unattractive to me. So no...its not all about looks!

Nah. I'll admit looks are a pretty big thing for me, but personality can definitely compensate for lack of looks. I've actually noticed that as I start liking someones personality more I start seeing them as attractive. Girls who I thought looked average suddenly started becoming attractive once I got to know them, without them actually changing their looks. And even that's just me, the importance of looks and personality varies from person to person

To put it in Django Unchained terms. The beauty of woman had my curiosity but the inner beauty of someone will have my attention.

Although in my experience I've found that women won't show interest single-handedly on my looks. People tell me all the time I'm the sweetest and most caring person out there but generally nobody gives me the time of day. I guess I can't speak for everyone but in my experience most girls go off of looks primarily in the beginning.
