It's not an update, it was disabled when we first got the new shoutbox, it's simply been reset.

The shoutbox should only be used for brief shouts. Conversations (chats) should not really even go on in there. That's what the chat room is for.

It actually was an update - a huge one too. We moved from Inferno vBShout 1.0.1 to Inferno vBShout 2.5.0 (build 2). We are using AOP (Advanced Optimized Protocol) so that it updates only when there is new content to be fetched and we are also using the auto-idle feature that prevents the shoutbox using resources after it loads if the user does not use the shoutbox.

At any rate, if you were talking about the feature, then you're right - it's not new and it was disabled previously. I decided to enable it to test it out, get opinions, and see if it impacted our server load.

Practically impossible. The shoutbox is global data that is fetched. Since it's not dynamically fetched based on user-specific settings (and by all means, cannot be) we could not do this. Sorry.

I've decided to remove colors from being allowed to reduce shoutbox clutter and to make sure that the shouts are readable from all styles (since some people have a habbit of choosing a very dark color that is nearly impossible to see on half the styles). We might try them later, but for now, let's try just shouting instead of colorizing =]

I have to agree. It's just irritating, and really just makes the shoutbox a new new post feature- I don't really feel like shouting anymore :(

Oooh, that^^^ would be a good idea if it's done, because it is really annoying to have to go and click the new post button, go reply, make your way back to the button, etc.
