View Full Version : So I asked my dentist...

So not long ago I went to the dentist for a routine checkup and they did some test or observation they never did before specifically looking at the tongue.
They also asked if I was sexually active, which I thought was a weird question to ask at the dentist.
When I asked what was with the new questions, they told me that they're looking for signs of oral cancer from STD viruses and bacteria transmitted to the mouth from oral sex and they're starting to see sharp rises of children from age 11 and onward developing oral cancer.
Has anybody experienced this with their dentist?
Puberty is weird, how people treat you in the weirdest places suddenly feels like it shifts overnight.

No that's weird, are you sexually active or has it just happened?

I am not sexually active no.
But that's only because I haven't found the right girl yet for me.
But apparently my dentist said they have to look for signs of oral cancer now because among doctors, reports of oral cancer are rising, and kids lie about their sexual activity or lack thereof.
So my dentist doctor can't really trust a verbal reply, he and his staff just have to check for themselves.

So in other words they don't trust you

While I can see how this might be puberty related, I think this might fit just a bit better here.

Well, I can personally say I haven't experienced this conversation with a dentist yet.

that is really odd, it makes sense though because dentists take care of oral health and what not.
