Hi guys not sure were to put this but I feel it has something to do with puberty and growing up.
Anyways I am a sophomore in highschool. And I really want to change up my look. As of right now I am always wearing baggy jeans and some form of a sweatshirt. And I think its time for a change. So my question is how do I change without looking dumb. And lastly how do I convince my parents its time to change my wardrobe.
Thanks in advance

Well wardrobe is totally your own choice; it is based on how you feel.
I say just dress however you want. Sure people are going to notice a stark difference but over time they will think of it as the new norm for you.
I totally understand where you are coming from. I changed my wardrobe during the summer after freshman year but no one really said anything. Recently, I have been wanting to change my wardrobe again but feel as though people will comment
I know that it might sound like I am giving you advice that I myself am not following, however I think it is easier to change wardrobes during a holiday/school break (such as winter and especially summer). People will notice a difference, but then again the break was a long time to change.
In addition, in regards to your parents, a break is a perfect excuse to ask for new clothes. It seems reasonable as you can say "I just wanna try something else now," "I'd like to go shopping for different clothes," or simply "I need new clothes" and just change your wardrobe by buying new articles.
So if you are really, absolutrly hesitant, I say wait for a break and then buy new clothes. If you are confident enough to change styles soon, you can just slowly transition by buying new clothes once every (few) week(s).
Clothing is a form of expression, don't let what others say about your style keep you from being yourself. Just do what feels comfortable, give it a try and go with what you like best

I would have put this in the fashion part of teen lifestyle :) but anyway, because you don't want your change to stand out to much? You wouldn't want to go extravagant (: which is a good thing, because dimples are really in at the moment. What I mean by this is a single coloured tee, or simple colours, keeping to the black, white, navy blue, grey ect. Not getting into the yellow :p or pattern. The teen might have a logo on the front or back, or simple design.
As for pants, a pair of mustard, or lighter coloured straight legged bottoms will go with all dude :) but as its heading towards summer in the US(I assume that's where you are) the you might want to turn to shorts instead :). Keep them above the knee, but apart from that, they could be the extravigant part of your outfit. Shoes, could be the more expensive part. You are able to look good on cheap clothing, but try to get some branded shoes, converse, nike, Adidas, Vans, New Ballance. Nike Rosches are in over here in Australia and New Zealand, and I did see a pic of Justin Bieber wearing some just the other day :) but apart from that your going to just have to look around and see the trends.
As for your parents, I'm not sure what age sophomore is 😂 we just go in years over here aha, but in either situation, dealing with your mum will probably be easier, as her to go shopping with you, say that you are sick of looking baggy :) hopefully she will help you get started.
Hope I helped a little bit dude.
P.s don't loose yourself in your new cloths

wfms, Thomas01 has great advice.
when you change your style it might be noticed, but it will soon be your normal look.

When I met my GF she loved me but wanted to change the way I looked. At that time I too used to wear baggy clothes and was rail thin. Had longish hair too.....givin me an "emo" look.....She prsuaded me to eat more (well, it was high carb...purely to fill me out) + with puberty hitting I was soon steadily gaining . .....When I got a little plumpy she got me to crop my hair short....Then I changed over to well fitting tee's and pants (by this time had added almost 20 kilos to my formerly skinny bod).......I was near-sighted but didn't wear glasses 'cos of nerdy look...She got me to get this sorted and got me a pair of cute glasses to.....So I now look pretty differnt and even my frnds cant grasp what happened...The change from "emo boy" to "high school jock" did take close to an year but a worthy change...

I would just tell them, hey I feel like I want something new instead of this, because I feel like I need to try something new

If you want to change your wardrobe/the way you dress, just tell your parents about it. You might not be able to buy everything you want, but hopefully they'll at least help you out and give you some money to start buying new clothes.

How to change is about looking at what suits you and is practical - what do others wear? take a look around and even a little time working out what you want is good, maybe a new haircut as well?
Maybe just say to parents you are going to try and dress smarter and see how that goes.
good luck

As long as you don't start wandering around in a clown uniform I'm sure there's no way any fashion decision of yours can cause you to look stupid.

I advise going for something that is subtle but cool wear a good fitting leather jacket if you're muscular wear tighter fitting clothes too show off don't follow fashion trends either you'll look like everyone else if you do

I'd probably look at what others are wearing then go from there.

it depends, do you have any clue what type of new fashion you may want to wear? you could always try a couple of different looks and decide which one you think is best or just switch back and fourth. you do not need to have just one type of style
