So I was looking up jobs in the Canadian army reserves and what I was concerned about was the idea that they could just ship me out at any time. I was relieved to find out that if you are a part-time reservist you cannot be deployed unless it is strictly voluntary, which many people end up doing.

I'm not really interested in combat roles. I'm not built for it and I probably couldn't qualify due to health issues. But a part of me thinks that a non-combat role would be just as interesting and just as important because they still need all those other people to keep things running. I'd still have to do basic training but I'm fairly certain I could manage that much at least.

I don't think this is anything I would do now (although I could) just because I want to focus on university first but... I dunno, what do you guys think it would be like?

I've been thinking about the army reservists a lot recently, in the role of an engineer as I'm doing carpentry in college. The only idea I don't like is in Britain the army by 2020 will be made up of many reserves. However I'm still considering the regular army as it can further my career in construction. Sorry for going on I think it's something you'll love once your in but till you pass the tests you'll probably get pissed with the way they expect you to act / do.
