I'm looking for some software to make character models for use in Poser Pro 2014, but I have absolutely no experience with the use of complicated tools (I'm using Poser because it's pretty simple). I have a Mac with 2GB of RAM, so don't recommend anything too hardware intensive (if it's a Windows program, I can run in in a virtual machine with 1GB of RAM).

I would prefer something that works like character creation in a game, giving you different options (eye type, body type, head shape, etc.). Does anyone know of anything like that?

Blender, Maya 2015, 3DS Max. I think Blender is the only one you can get for free unless you're a student then you can get a free student version of Maya.

Maya is the only one I have any experience with so I can't really give you much advice on the other two.

Thanks a lot. I'll probably use either Blender or Maya.

You can actually get most Autodesk products' student version, but you have to be at a school that signed up with Autodesk.

They prohibit the use of whatever you make with the student version to be used commercially, so you can't sell your models or use them at a company.
