I did not know about this - but thats one of the great things about VT when people share things it helps us all know more.
I guess its just for mac users, I just use external drives.

I have backed up my computer using it in the past, but not in a while, or since I got my new laptop. I never had to restore an old backup, though.

Thanks Mike.
I've switched it on anyway,it won't do any harm if it doesn't do any good.

always best to be prepared. So a few easy steps and a freebie is good.

I've never used one, but I'm in possession of a few Apple devices, and so's my sister - is it worth getting one?

I use it for all my backups. There's a small glitch in it in Mavericks and newer though. Make sure every program is in your main applications (Finder > Applications) folder NOT your User > Applications folder. I had some in that folder and it didn't back it up. I'm not sure why there's two applications folder but it's a bug that I've mentioned to Apple but I don't think they've done anything about it unfortunately.
Or maybe it was just me and something went wrong in the backup. Either way, I've had to restore my computer a few times and Time Machine is simple enough. I did lose half my applications though because of that folder issue.
