View Full Version : Why?

As someone who has written a suicide note, and strongly considered it, why do people try and stop you? I mean, if it's what the person really wants, then why try and stop it. If you really care for them, you want them to be happy, but some people can't be happy in this world. So why not let them escape?

I think of that a lot and I totally agree. It seems kinda selfish and inhumane to keep someone alive when clearly they cannot be happy. As long as the person has tried everything they could think of to get help, and they still don't want to be in this world, then I think they should be able to leave it peacefully. Otherwise, it's constant and unrelenting torture to stay here.

Exactly my point.

because the thought of never seeing that person again is unbearable and you would do anything to make them stay

Yes but isn't that kinda selfish. You're preventing them from getting what they want because you don't want them to die.

yes it's selfish espeaicially if the person is disabled etc. but with depression which is kinda treatable although life might seem intolerable it will get better someday, like my auntie who took 4 suicide attempts but after therapy and treatment is one of the happiest people you have met. I understand it isn't like this for everyone but life is wonderful and although it might be selfish if someone saves someone else's life years later they could be grateful.

True, but sometimes therapy can only make things worse as it has for me, and it's hard to find a good therapist. Sometimes therapy can worsen the problem, not make it better.

That is a really good question. I completely agree and disagree at the same time. I'm someone that has thought about suicide since I was 8 or so, and at times I really wish I had gone through with it. However I am happy I didn't as I've been lucky enough to make some good friends and do ok at school/college. What I'm trying to say is I completely agree with you, but it gets better and easier to cope with life as you understand it more. So I think you should be able to choose to die but only after the age of 18 when you understand things better.

I really get bothered when people say it gets better, as if it does for everyone.
No, it doesn't get better for everyone. Just because it did for you doesn't mean it will for everyone else.
Then we have those ignorant people that call us suicidals selfish. Why? Because we're leaving the people in our lives. Well what about us? Are we supposed to continue living in pain...for people that hurt us? No.
We were given the right of living (Okay, it might actually be a privilege) but it can be taken away.
So why can't we choose to take it away ourselves?

Some people are really selfish and ignorant. But it's not the suicidal people. This is because they believe that by killing themselves, they are doing the world a favor.
That's what I think when I want to kill myself.

I think it would be more selfish, if someone didn't help a suicidal person. Rather than a person leaving a suicidal person to sulk and be unknown as to what their next actions might be. You only have one life, nobody knows what happens after that.
This is a permanent solution to a almost very temporary problem. The only exception I see is a physician related suicide, in which they have a terminal illness where they have seen countless doctors who gave them the same news, that they were dying.
You are letting whatever you are suicidal about win. Bullies, romance, your self esteem. You are letting all those enemies who make fun of you live.
I just hope you understand where I'm coming form, just worry about your safety. Please stay strong man. :)

"Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem."
Of course we want the permanent solution!
What, you think we want the temporary solution??
That has to be the dumbest quote I've ever heard. That's basically promoting suicide. I can't even express my anger and annoyance for the damn quote.
WE WANT THE PERMANENT SOLUTION TO OUR PROBLEMS!
BECAUSE THAT WAY OUR PROBLEMS WON'T COME BACK!
No offense to you of course. Your concern is appreciated!
