I've been really depressed for a while now and I've lost all interest in things like school and have become a lazy person and my grades have suffered. I don't like saying it's because of my depression that I'm such a bad student but I also am pretty convinced that it's the cause. Before I was depressed I was a good student and had a much more active life in every way. I have no interest in school work. I try to force myself to do work but I can't, people I try to talk about it don't understand how miserable I am. Sometimes I honestly feel like if I do the smallest thing I don't enjoy, like a homework assignment or project or study I'll snap so I constantly either just do something I enjoy or nothing at all. Do you think it's okay to blame my depression or am I making unfair excuses for myself?

What do you mean by excuse? If you have a mental issue, situations and problems you deal with, another person might not be able to relate or understand. I wouldn't say you're using it as an excuse, just rather you are using it as a tool to give up in yourself. Understand self acceptance, don't try to impress anyone. This is something that you need to probably talk about more and accept. Talk about issues with a professional if you need to.
It's not fine to give up and just turn to that whenever something doesn't go the way you want it to. You are still human and you have to cope and understand you have to deal with problems you might be faced such as this.
If you need assistance with school work, let a teacher know. Connect yourself with positive people. Family, friends and such might not understand or can't always relate to you. Like I said earlier, don't give up and have faith in yourself.
I hope everything goes well for you. :)

well no. I mean, understand how depression is effecting you, but in the world we are living in, you have to learn to try to function despite the depression even if doing so will be incredibly hard

Well I'm not using it as an excuse to not try, but the reason I'm struggling. I'm trying I'm just losing. But you're right, I need to work harder.
