I had. My mom made me get Gardasil after I started to have sex. They gave me three injections.
Btw, some people say it's not really efective, there's a lot of controversy around it.

Better safe than sorry :lol3:

It was required in my province for girls at the ages of 13/14 to get it. Not a big deal, whether or not it works, I don't know but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Might as well. You get enough vaccines as it is, what's one more poke?

I was pretty sure the HPV vaccine is now included in regular childhood injection regimens for both genders. or maybe people cried about it for "encouraging teens to have sex" and changed their minds. anyone know?

I ask because I got my last shots a few years ago and the CDC recommends it for boys too.

Here, it's still a requirement. In Ontario, vaccinations are mandatory and students can get suspended from school if their vaccination records are not up to date (nearly happened to me because we forgot about a booster shot which I got coincidentally on the same day as an HPV shot so ow, pain in BOTH arms).

And yes, nowadays it is suggested, although not as strictly enforced in some places, for boys too, who can contract HPV genital warts and cancer, although only women can get cervical cancer from it. When I was in school, the HPV vaccine was very new and, in some cases, optional although highly recommended for female students. For the most part, everyone got it unless they were exempt for health or religious reasons which were few and far between. Parents got sent home letters explaining the vaccine in great detail and a lot of parents were on board immediately.

As for "encouraging kids to have sex", there will always be people like that but HPV can be contracted without having sexual intercourse. Any sort of genital contact can spread HPV and most times, HPV is not noticeable until you start presenting symptoms such as genital warts but that does not always happen even if you're a carrier.

My parents made me get vaccinated for everything which was convenient because shortly after getting a meningitis C vaccine, I actually came into contact with meningitis and had to go to the hospital to be tested for it. Because I was vaccinated, especially so recently, the doctors said there was a 98% chance I did not contract it. And I didn't, so go vaccines!

I'd honestly recommend the HPV vaccine, even if you're not sexually active right now. It's a safeguard for the future and there are a fair number of studies that do support it. No one I have ever known to get it has had a bad reaction to it (besides maybe a sore arm for a day or two) so there's really no reason not to get it.

I have not had the HPV vaccine, though it was recommended to me when I turned 12. My mom is not a fan of vaccines and because I was not sexually active at the time it was not necessary. However, we have discussed my getting it soon because I have been sexually active and will be again in the future. I want to be safe and take the appropriate precautions.

I got it, my pediatrician recommend I get it before I become sexual active. I think I've taken 2 of the 3. I would recommend taking it b/c even if it only works on somethings its better than 0 protection.

It really is something you should have had before you were sexually active because so many people have HPV, so do it as soon as possible!

I agree, but as I said, my mom really doesn't like vaccines.

3 injections don't even hurt something you should get

My mom wouldn't let me get it when I was younge. But my dad signed off on it when I turned 16, I think it's an important form of protection for both sexes from later issues. I'm actually going for my third installment in the next month or so. It's best before becoming sexually active so it's something to consider when making the decision to become sexually active.
