So Im trying to teach myself how to play guitar, I know all of the major chords and Im working on chord transitions but ITS HARD! I'm not good with tempos which makes it impossible to sing and play at the same time (not that I can really sing). So I guess my Im asking for any tips you guys got for someone starting out.

Dylan is right. You really just have to keep at it and you'll get beaten in time.
Even if you're having a hard time singing lyrics to a song, you could hum or sing the melody/tune of the song, which will help you get better with singing and playing.

What works for me is short practice sessions and then longer mix up of fun and sing a long. So for example If a song needs a change from D to Bm then Bm to A I will just practice that transition. Tempo well start of slow then listen to the song and Pick what is easy to start with, but have fun and enjoy and Remember Nothing will ever sound the same as a CD or Vid you try and find your own version.
Do you strum or fingerpick?

Metronome.
Record yourself.
Try to play along to original records, constantly ''think'' the tempo in your head like 1... 2... 3... 4... Like that, basically count the bars in your head with each strum.

i definitely agree with recording yourself. i do it daily when i play and work on songs. i find it easier to hear what needs to be fixed/improved that way.

Assuming you don't have at teacher, this is in my opinion the best online beginner course for guitar http://www.justinguitar.com/en/BC-000-BeginnersCourse.php
That will probably already be a great help.
