Why do you think fights are useful? seems to me very often people comment on the fights and forget the game.

It's as much a part of hockey as pucks. Fights, or the prospect of fighting, force (or at least used to force) players to be accountable for their actions on the ice. A player who can't fight would think twice about laying out a player if the opposing team had a fighter on the ice. If there was no fighting, what's to stop players who don't care about being suspended from chasing down star players with the intent to injure? Maybe fighting doesn't stop that, but it makes players think twice. Would you go after Patrick Kane if Bob Probert was out there? Well if you did, your face would probably be coming out of the back of your head. Momentum is a thing too. If your team is falling behind and can't seem to get it going, a good beatdown on the other team with a fight can do just the trick in some situations.

I know it's only a matter of time before the anti-fighting people get their wish, but I don't think the picture is going to be as rosy as they think it will be.

It's normal, hockey is made for aggression and fights.

I think the fights are unsportsmanlike. Most of them just do it to show off to the crowd.

I think fighting in hockey is a major check and balance that keeps the game in control. Your not going to go goon it up because you know you will likely get messed up in return.

I think they are rather fun to see. Although I'd hate to get caught between them while they are fighting. :D
