Vinyl has made a massive comeback, and is actually the most lucrative part of the music industry right now. Everyone is putting their music out on vinyl, which I think is pretty cool because I like the idea of tangible music, rather than data flying around in the air.

Does anybody have a vinyl collection? Whether it's new or old.

My parents have given me a lot of really good vinyl records, from their old collections, which include a lot of first pressing classic rock albums from the 60's and 70's. There is a fantastic record shop in the town I live in, which has been there for about 50 years, and they are always getting new stuff in -- originals and new pressings.

I personally have a brand spanking new The Bends (Radiohead) and Abbey Road (The Beatles)

That's all for me for now, but my mom has some as well.

Edit: and by new I mean I purchased them new- these babies get lots of attention~

I don't personally have my own collection but my parents have like, 20-30 just gathering dust in a stack. Mainly music from the 50s-80s.

I think we have a huge case of old records somewhere in the house (unless my mom took them when she left my dad), but alas, we don't have a record player.

I'd love to maintain a vinyl collection, but can't.

How is making a comeback?

I don't have any vinyl because honestly I can get the same record fo much less or for free on youtube and it just plays & maintains itself. A lot of people say that theres a big difference in sound quality but honestly I don't believe it and either way I don't have the money to get headphones or speakers that have to capability to sound better quality than an aac file.

Im not a vinyl fan tbh -- i think the music matters more than the way i obtain it.

It's making a comeback a lot. I can't remember the exact years but I think it was that last year had the most records bought since, I think, 1997.

Yeah I have a vinyl collection and since music is like my main passion I am always like a kid in a sweet shop when it comes to vinyl shops :p. I think I have between 100-200 vinyls. Some old some new :)

There is a difference in sound quality but wether that difference is real or not depends on the recording equipment used.

There's a reason stuff recorded before the digital age sounds better on vinyl after all.

If you just record something with digital technology and inputs/outputs and put it on vinyl then there really is no difference other than it being on a vinyl disc... :)

The comeback is real yeah I think it was like 10~ years ago when basically there was no new music being released on vinyl by anyone remotely succesful now things are changing a little, probably aimed towards hipster markets lol.

exactly. I don't get why the put software made music on vinyl. Seems backwards. Older music definitely can have a difference but I can't afford headphones or speakers nice enough to tell anyway

Well if it's with old recordings you don't really need ''nice speakers'' you want something that's also preferably from around the same era and as ''hi fidelity'' as possible for audionerds that's as life like basically.

The best speakers I ever had were from late 70s and the brand was completely inexpensive, I've seen people throw those speakers away just because they were old and didn't look nice...

But yeah a really well rounded, great, powerful, system does cost at least a few grand $ and needs the right space... That I'll never have lol

But a really good system can be gotten pretty cheap, I got my current set up by salvageing old 100w speakers with built in bass from an old entertainment station & wiring them together with some cheap ass home cinema system speakers and slapping them behind another cheap sub-woofer and it's really good quality cost me basically nothing since I already had the sub & the home cinema speakers just needed some wires & got the 100ws for free :D

So it's possible but a bit of ingenuity needed. As for headphones man those are almost a scam in my mind good companies charge so much based on their brand like Sennheiser keeps their prices artificially inflated by dictating minimum prices to resellers & limiting quantity for years, decades even for some models.

Vinyl is fantastic.
My dad has a collection of like 40 albums of assorted 60s-80s stuff. I've started maintaining them and listening to them, since he's too busy and never listens to them.
We have a Technics SL-BD22 turntable, a Nakamichi SR-3A receiver, and a couple of Yamaha tower speakers.

Compared to digital/CD:
-Heck of a lot more sound stage
-Yes, slightly less sharp or clear, but I like it. It's more natural compared to overcleaned digital.
-pops/crackle are there, but a clean well maintained record will have none.
-instruments sound real

Overall, I think that people who enjoy just listening to music, and enjoying the sound (not just the song) should listen to them.

I'm planning on getting some 45rpm pressings of "Rumors" and "Fleetwood Mac" (the white album) by Fleetwood Mac because their music sounds fantastic.
They're 40 bucks apiece tho :/

I'm really glad they're coming back. It's something I hope everyone will get to listen to, since they're dying in the digital era.
I just hope that songs will be mastered for records, not just CD copied to vinyl.
An album that is mastered for vinyl, and mastered well will outshine any digital. I look forward to see what happens.

I have a number of records from my parents, most of which aren't exactly my style and some which I've never heard of before in my life (a bluegrass band called "Dry Branch Fire Squad", among others.) The portion of the collection that I obtained myself includes only three albums: Sgt. Pepper, Clockwork Angels and Tommy. My local Newbury Comics has a pretty decent selection of vinyl, though, and I plan to take thorough advantage of this.

Okay, so vinyl is literally MY LIFE
I've been collecting since I got the special edition Ultraviolence record from Urban Outfitters, and I must say it has well developed into an obsession
I think as of now I only have around 20 something records which I'd have more, but unfortunately, money doesn't grow on trees
For me, I only buy new vinyl because for me, even though I think it sounds way better, I'm a very visual person, and its something about the large cover art and the different kinds of vinyl that get me excited like a 10 year old girl at a 1D concert XD

I've always wanted to start a vinyl collection but I don't own a record player, so not much point yet.

I've got around about 30 vinyls now.
Started out when a friend of mine bought me the Surfin bird record as a fun gift
Then noticed all my favourite bands were releasing them so started buying more and more.
Enter Shikari and a few Pop Punk

My parents have an extensive collection. When I wanted to play them they said I was too little to mess with the turntable (expensive). Now I don't really have an interest in playing them although my boyfriend is allowed to play the records and is fascinated with them. He seems to know a little trivia about each of them.

Oh my goodness yes, I have a new Monkees vinyl as well as a Beatles, Beach Boys, Eagles, and a hell of a lot more. I also have a bunch of single 45s with some great hits on it. I honestly jam to the song "Take on me" way too much.

Yes, I only use vinyl. Sounds so much better than digital formats (I even record music with a 16 track because of my digital hatred). I have a lot of different artists such as Led Zeppelin, Santana, Boston, Hendrix, Metallica, and Van Halen. I also have a great pressing of a Buddy Holly album, as well as a first run pressing of Led Zeppelin III (Their best album). I'm currently playing the records on a Technica turntable through an old Marshall guitar amp that I don't use (it's one of my old ones haha).

The only vinyl record I have is Tommy by The Who, but I don't have a record player. Once I have one I'm gonna be stealing a lot of records from my sister who has a great collection (about ~150 records, ranging from Queen, to Meatloaf, to Johnny Cash, to a Sesame Street collection).

Queen is truly amazing, I must collect them all. One of the most expensive albums is "Night of the opera" even though it was their biggest hit album and the most records were made of it, its so rare and expensive because people hoard them even if they don't have a record player and even if they hate or don't listen to Queen :P

I've seen it multiple times secondhand for ~5 euros but didn't buy it because I don't have a record player. I regret that now, it would be awesome to have, even if was just to hang on the wall.

For now I'll have to make due with CDs.

I went to a flea-market today and I bought some cool records, most on CD, but also some vinyl.

Vinyl:
Kick by INXS
Communiqué by Dire Straits
The best of CCR

CD:
Animals, A Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Atom Heart Mother and A Momentary Lapse of Reason by Pink Floyd.
The Clash self-titled
Doolittle by The Pixies
Plus some more CDs that I got really cheap.

Vinyl records is one of those things I really want to get into, but my bank accounts doesn't want me to.
