Does anyone resent the scorn in peoples eyes when you do something that isn't quite the same as everyone else? Just the little things, eating with your ''wrong'' hand, talking with the ''wrong'' people and writing about the ''wrong'' things? It really gets to me when even my friends will pick at things for doing things that are natural to me, such as drawing Math in the air in front of me or moving my lips when i'm thinking. Does anyone else feel this way?
Conformity
People walking, step by lockstep.
Hair slicked back, suit and tie, check.
They’re Conforming to what is the perceived norm,
With They’re Individuality snuffed out, They’re the perfect form.
And With Monotone voice, shadeless colour,
Shapes and shadows flow into each other,
We Fade into the background, No I and No Me,
Eventually the background is all we will see.
What’s wrong with the beauty? The spark in your eyes?
The fire in the heart, that Soul underlies?
What makes You You is what they don’t see,
They do not want any waves in Their perfect Sea.
So you keep your head down, but keep your heart soaring,
Dance your own tune around Their conforming.
You can be a splash on the canvas while They’re a point on a chart
Just never forget what makes you who you are.
