why is it that there seems to be more good, listenable music than there are good lyrics? and I don't even mean "good" lyrics....how about ones that just make sense?

I was listening to a new song, Peaches by In the Valley Below and it makes no sense whatsoever. yeah i get that it's cool to have obscure lyrics but that doesn't mean they should be stupid. Anyway, there are songs I want to like and the lyrics take away from my liking it. Anybody else feel this strongly about dumb lyrics? and wouldn't you think it would be easy to write some simple lyrics? I guess the Mowgli's worked REALLY hard and used all their brainpower to come up with the lyrics to 'i'm Good". OK, I'm done ranting.....

I love good lyrics and I dislike bad ones. I prefer dark lyrics instead of something like Nicki Minaj (that only "sings" about her butt) or those rappers that just sing about whores, money and stuff like that.

To an extent, yes.
One song I've always found really disappointing is Superchic(K)'s "One More", which has really cool verses, but a boring and quite honestly annoying chorus.

I would much rather listen to darklikemysoul lyrics than rappers rapping about murdering their rivals and slapping hoes.

then again one of my favorite Rammstein songs "Mein Teil" is (ironically) about cannibalism soooo...

I honestly don't care for bad lyrics, doesn't really influence or bother me in any way, but hey, everyone is different. Anything with a good ass beat will hook me onto it.

I don't mind bad lyrics, I can just not pay attention to them. They might annoy me but it's not to a great extent :P

I tend to distance myself from songs that have no literal meaning whatsoever. However, there has been some here and there that I like. Mostly because it has a great beat.

I don't really like lyrics that ruin a perfectly good song. So if they are bad, ill listen to the instrumental

I like lyrics that have meaning and make sense.

Most of the songs that I listen to tell a story that I've never experienced, however there is meaning to the lyrics, therefore I'll listen to it. If a song doesn't sound nice but it has good lyrics, chances are I'll listen to it twice and then never listen to it again.

I acknowledge that most of them are pretty out there, but as long as the song is catchy enough, no, I don't care.

I like some meaningful lyrics that have emotion, deepness, etc. but at the same time I love listening to people like will.i.am and nicki minaj with lyrics like "look bubbles, go back to your habitat" or "Yep, I'm stacking paper, stack money to the ceiling now I need a sky-scraper". I will only listen to these songs with less meaning if they have good beat/insturmental. If they don't have a good beat... bitch, bye! No chance that I will listen to it. Although some of the song I listen to might not have a deep meaning, they are generally "clever" lyrics.

I think there is a time and place for emotional/meaningful lyrics but honestly I would go insane if I didn't listen to songs about partying and money etc. I truly enjoy listening to that stuff as much as the meaningful stuff. Especially since I find that some of the more "meaningful" songs are even more bland, generic, & boring than your some of the stereotypical hip hop & pop.

Most of the time I like my music to either be fun or have an attitude. Some people like to listen to the type of music that matches what they are feeling but I like to what is catchy -- since the two most catchy genres are pop and hip hop, that explains why I listen to so much pop and hip hop.

Also, despite that I like rap, I HATE certain rap songs that go to far with the "money/hoes" thing. When it starts to get sexist or misogynistic or ridiculous amounts of violence being rapped about, I draw the line.

Don't get me wrong. I can appreciate a good song from any genre or with any amount of deep meaning, its just that I would opt to listen to something else most of the time. AND i personally DONT think the lyrics I listen to are bad--but that's subjective.

Lyrics are absolutely essential to a song. Although some of them may be described as bad I think everyone's different and everyone sees good and bad lyrics differently, just like the same with any other thing. What one person sees as bad can be amazing to another person. Personally, bad lyrics don't really annoy me but I do love songs with lyrics that really make me think and stop and appreciate the music:)

Every song I have, with exception of a few, have a very personal meaning to me. I look at lyrics above all the music and everything. If the lyrics aren't good then the song isn't good to me.

Depends on how bad they are. There are songs I love with a few lines I hate, but if they're all terrible I probably won't care to listen to the song.

If it's extremely vapid and repetitive and/or stupid, it can grate my nerves, but it's rare I find any so bad

If I disagree with the philosophies, no.
If the lyrics are comedic, no.
If the lyrics are lacking because of amateur work, no.

If it's Lil Wayne speaking shit, yes.

It depends on the genre. Im an asshole so i think rap songs about drugs, money and bitches are bad. But i think that metal and that stuff where its often about killing people and satan and hell and that stupid shit, is good music. Hammer Smashed Face or Necropedophile by Cannibal Corpse proves what i just told about myself.

it depends. sometimes the son is still redeemable, other times the lyrics take any redeemable qualities away

Lyrics are the reason I think 95% of modern popular music is absolute shit.

So yeah what I perceive as bad/stupid lyrics annoy me a lot as do the tones of certain singers.

I'm a musician/songwriter, and I hate bad lyrics and no matter how great the melody or the rhythm is, I won't listen a song with bad lyrics no matter what the genre.

Songs that sell earn money for the songwriters, and I won't contribute to making money for a lyricist who writes shitty lyrics. What you do is your business, but I don't think crappy lyricists should be rewarded like that.
