For a while now I've had a cyst in my genital area and I thought nothing of it. I thought that it was just a bump of skin and ignored it. But for about two days now it's been red and painful, and I really just want it gone! :(
Has anyone here dealt with a sebaceous cyst? How long will it take for it to go away? It hurts a lot and it might be infected, but I don't want to go to the doctor's unless it grows.
Thanks in advance!

Onw od my older bropthers had one near his Peis area. It looked like an ingrown hair at first and he said it swelled bigger and got red and more painfull.
My brother being himself decided to pop it as tho it was a pimple of ingrown hair. He said it too a LOT more strength to pop it. GHe said whe it poped there wa slots of fluid and more blood then a pimple. The cyst actually just filled up again over the next two weeks but with less pain he said. this time he went to the doctor who actually just poped it and then applied stuff in the cycst etc to make it go away.
anyways thats what happened to Big bro #2

EDIT: Missed that you were a girl. I don't know if the cysts have different names between guys and girls, but even guys can get cysts in the genital area. As such, I'm sure the information would be more or less the same.
Well, I have those cysts. What I say here is from what my doctor told me in my last visit. Technically, they should be nothing more than just bumps that will never go away. They are just clogs in the genital skin's pores that will never clear up. It's completely normal and, unless it just bugs you visually, should not cause you any problems.
However, I don't have your problem where it's red and painful. The first thing I should ask is if you've been consciously or not been scratching at it? If so, then that might be the reason why it's red and painful. Still, I'd say that you go to the doctor to get it checked out since you say it's red and painful. From personal experience of the four years I've had the cysts, they haven't been red or painful.
Cysts will never go away. It's like a birthmark on your skin; it stays with you forever barring surgery to remove them. However, they don't pose any health risks and would be nothing more than cosmetic surgery. Doctors highly advise against operating on those cysts because they are harmless and there are risks, as with any operation no matter how minor, that might mess up the reproductive organ or make it look worse.
But if it is some kind of infection on the cysts, then the doctors would either give you some cream/medicine or surgery depending on what they see. It all depends on their diagnosis. Infections would be the only time doctors would consider the operation route on them.
And cysts growing is basically, quoting my doctor here, "a roll of the dice". They either stay the size they are now or grow bigger. With these cysts, or anything you feel is bodily abnormal, don't use size as an indicator of anything. Just because it's small or big doesn't mean it's dangerous. And from what my doctor said, cysts that get bigger are just as harmless as the small bump sizes. And while bigger cysts can be uncomfortable, operation is still frowned upon. While the scrotum is deformed by the cysts, operation can unintentionally cause further deformation.
I hope what I said was of help to you, from a fellow guy with cysts on his scrotum. If you're concerned about them, then just go to your doctor. They can give you a better estimation as to what they are and what's going on with the redness and pain. Us people talking on here can only give you our own experiences with them and can't say medically what you should do.
