I'm 14. I don't do any sports (My only options are soccer, basketball and some Irish sports that are pretty similar to Soccer) I'm 4 foot 11, almost all of my year is taller than me. I don't really have a problem with this but I'm overweight, I'm 110 pounds, I was at a disco a few days ago and I say a picture of myself and I wasn't very happy with it. I've been trying to do 30 situps a day for the past few days. To make matter even more worse I broke a bone in my ankle 2 months ago and I've been recovering from being in a cast on crutches for 5 weeks, At the moment running and jogging is kind of out of the question.
When I take off my shirt to get changed in gym class I'm really embarrassed. If someone could advise my on some exercises to do I'd definitely do them. Any other advice on basic dieting is greatly appreciated.
In the picture I'm the one on the far right

Well, as you probably know, the best person to speak to about this is your doctor. But from the picture, you don't look noticeably overweight, shortness will most likely stop through puberty. However, just the basic advice, eat healthy and watch your calories. Working out like sit ups and push ups I find don't really help you lose weight as much as other exercises. Running is a good one and sit ups are good for the core/stomach area. But that's just from my experience.

Its important to get fit when you're younger....I sadly missed the bus big time......in my case..When I was 13/14 I was stick skinny. I had a small girlish face, puny body, 6pak abs, limbs were virtual sticks ....I thought I can stay skinny whole life without working out a bit.......I was not fit and didn't do any sports..
Boy I was wrong .by 16 puberty hit & within lyk 1.5 yrs my waist gone from 25 in to 36, face has plumped up, , I've developing a small tummy roll too....and I have gone from 48 kg to 65 kg at 5 foot 11......... nw I'm even unfitter...cannot even climb stars without puffing and breaking a sweat....cannot even think of working out...my skinny-fat body is a mess under my clothes...I feel horrible in the beach.

I'm not an expert but I have a bit of experience on this since I've ben going to the gym for about 5 months ^^
Diet: avoid sugars and fast good. Get more veggies and fruits for example.
Exercise: if you can't run for now you'll have to go with weights, push ups, crunches, etc., oh, and my favorite ones: squats!
Good luck! :)

you shouldn't be embarrassed of your own body, but ye that happens when you see more fit people than you..And everyone has their body ideal and everyone would like to look like that and that, but you can get that by your own work example(gym, follow eating schedule and etc.).I wish you luck one of the best things to drop weight is eat less(smaller portions),and after a meal take a walk or something, than you're not gaining fat!
Good luck!! ^^

The best thing to do is go to your local gym and ask a personal trainer. They'll make you an exercise table for you to follow and will improve in no time.

You're not fat and any childish fat kind of goes away when you go through puberty.

I agree. You don't look really overweight.
It's probably just baby fat that you're worried about, which generally goes away toward the end of puberty. But if you want to get in better shape sit-ups and push-ups are a good start since you can't do any running, or anything too serious, for the time being, given your injury.
Since you just had an ankle injury, you should definitely talk to your doctor before you start running and doing more serious exercising.
As for your diet, don't eat less or anything like that. It's important that you still get your full 3 meals per day, especially during puberty. Good ways to lose weight the healthy way through dieting is to cut out bad carbs from your diet. Bad carbs come from things like bread, pasta, potatoes, and wheat/grain products. Including junk food :P
These are "bad carbs" because they serve very little nutritional purpose and only really make you gain weight in the long run. They're good for energy, but bad for your blood sugar regulation, and make it harder to burn fat because the majority of those carbs get turned into fat cells. You can get "good carbs" from fruits, vegetables, and legumes (all kinds of beans, sprouts, peas), and nuts.
