Okay, today is 22th of Bahman 1393 (2015) (22/11/1393 Solar-Hijri Calendar) and 36 years ago back in 1979,last signs of power of Shah disappeared in Iran and revolution succeeded which 3 months after that led to a referendum which "Islamic Republic" type of government and constitutions were chosen with 97% of legitimate votes for Iran and with "Ayatollah Khomeini" as Supreme Leader and "Mehdi Bazargan" as Interim President until first presidential election which was about a year after that.
Well, although 36 years have passed since the revolution succeeded and Islamic Republic has lived with its goods and bads and difficulties and ... today once again, people have come out into the streets to participate in rallies for celebrating 36th anniversary of the Revolution and to show their support for Islamic Republic.
Although Islamic Republic does not have the same popularity which it had at the beginning, but according to different polls (international and internal) still somehow about 80% percents of Iranians support this type of government, meanwhile a considerable number of them seek reforms in power structures and economic plans and social laws and greater efforts for fighting corruption in government.
In these rallies, people say different mottoes both in support of Islamic Republic and against some of the superpowers of the world;well many people think that anti-western and anti-Israel mottoes of Iranians are because of that same stereotypes about "Hatred toward West and other cultures and religions is a basic quality of all Muslims and it has roots in their religion",which is,politely, nonsense! They are lots of reasons behind those mottoes. For example :
Death to America : is one of the common mottoes which without any exception is said by people in rallies every year all over Iran and mainly reasons of it are :
1. 28 Mordad coup in 1953 and Operation AJAX (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953_Iranian_coup_d%27%C3%A9tat) which resulted in overthrowing of Elected Prime Minister of Iran,Mohammad Mosadegh who was one of the main leaders of Nationalization of Oil Industry of Iran. The CIA's main HQ in that coup was US then Embassy.
2. Strong support of Shah after 1953 and beginning of heavily suppressing critics under their nose until the last breathes of Shah's reign in Iran.
3. Great role of CIA in creating SAVAK (Shah's secret police) and training its agents and providing new methods of torture and suppressing criticizing voices.
4. Capitulation Agreement which lit the first sparks of Revolution in 1961 after fiery speech of Ayatollah Khomeini against it,before his arrest and then exile. (Among clerics of those times,Khomeini was involved in different fields including Philosophy,Religion,Literature and ... but even other clerics know him more as a political figure than just a simple scholar)
5. Interfering in Iran's internal affairs and influencing Shah to choose officials who could protect their interests in here.
5. Giving asylum to Shah and rejecting revolutionary government's demand about his return for trial for his crimes which led to US Embassy Crisis.
6. Supporting Iraq, politically and militarily by giving them advices, during Iran-Iraq war and remaining silent about Iraq using Chemical Weapons against Iranian cities and civilians.
7. Shooting down of Iran Air Flight 655 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_Air_Flight_655) by USS Vincennes in 1988 which caused death of 290 people who were in Airbus Airliner, and some kinda affected Iran's decision about accepting UN 598 Resolution of ending the conflict with Iraq.
8. Politically and Financially Supporting Saudi Arabia during Afghan Civil War while they knew that they were supporting Taliban and other extremist groups which were ultra-hostile toward Iran and other sects of Muslims (Shia and Sunni together) financially and with providing equipments for them through Pakistan against North Alliance and Ahmad Shah Massoud until his assassination by Taliban in 9th September of 2001.
9. Sanctions and great propaganda war against Iran.
10.Accusing Iran for different things including "Supporting Terrorism" (mainly because Iran's support for Hezbollah) and AMIA Bombing.
10.Giving asylum to MEK,which is known as a hated terrorist organization by most majority of Iranians that aided Saddam during Iran-Iraq war and have assassinated and murdered many Iranians since 1979.
Death to England : is often used in rallies too which by England they mean UK,since still the name England is famous for anything which is related to United Kingdom and Great Britain in Iran and its reasons:
1. Well basic reasons of these mottoes against UK are because of about 200 years colonization of Iran by Great Britiain during Qajar Dynasty.
2. Invasion of Iran by British forces during WWI and WWII alongside other Allies (specially the hatred toward USSR and Russia was sometimes even greater than hatred toward US and UK during the years when still USSR used to exist, because like UK,they had a great role in each colonization and invasion of Iran during WWI and WWII and failure of Mosadegh's Government and its overthrowing, and also they were one of the greatest supporters of Saddam during first 5 years of war)
3. Interfering in Iran's internal affairs both during Qajar and Pahlavi's reign and making Iranian authorities appoint those people as high rank officials who could protect their interests.
4. 28 0f Mordad 1953 coup (in cooperating with US and CIA) because the main goal of Nationalization Movement of Oil Industry of Iran was to completely achieve the right of Iran's oil for Iran's government itself which until those times used to be held by "Anglo-Persian Oil Company now "BP".
5. Supporting Saddam during Iran-Iraq alongside other Western and Arab countries and USSR (if we want to be fair,USSR was even more hated than US and UK in Iran before its collapse)
6. Sanctions and Great propaganda war against Iran.
Death to Israel : Well, although most Iranians believe Israel is not a legitimate state at all because of being built upon the land of another people, but MOSSAD's role in training and aiding SAVAK during Shah's reign is one of the main reasons why Israel is hated by Iranians, specially members of First Generation of Revolution (we,I mean me and those people who are either in my age or about 10 years older than me are Third Generation, sometimes I joke about it with comparing it with 3G! )
It has nothing to do with Anti-Semitism or Hatred toward other religions and cultures.Although some Hardliners whom even most of Islamic Republic officials and political figures themselves (Including both Fundamentalists and Reformists and current Supreme Leader himself) don't favor them, try to link it with their own goal.Right now,Iran is home to greatest population of Jews in Middle East outside of Israel and other minorities including Armenians,Zoroastrians,Assyrians,Izadis,Sunni Muslims,Sikhs and ... who are allowed to practice their religions freely and have representatives in Parliament and Experts Council and have same civil rights as any other Iranians;except of course Bahae'is whose situations in Iran are really complicated.
Although governments of UK and US and some other western countries are not really welcomed among most Iranians and these mottoes are just signs of hatred for their interventions in internal affairs of Iran and their hostile foreign policy toward it,but most majority,I dare to say over 99% of Iranians (people and in most stages, the government) do not have anything against western people and will greet them warmly if they want to come and visit Iran.Actually,Iranians are too fond of foreigners, specially Europeans and Americans, but as guests and co-members of humankind, not as overlords and masters.
PressTV's documentary about today and Iran's revolution (http://www.presstv.ir/Detail/2015/02/11/397109/Iran-marks-36th-Revolution-anniversary) : Not completely reliable since it is biased, but still more reliable than many other sources.
