Just curious - is there any songs out there that once you hear, it takes you to a place or a certain time?

For me, there's a few. I just heard Talk by Coldplay a few minutes ago and my mind immediately snapped to me working in the late afternoon/early evening in the front line of Jamba Juice store 325. The song used to get played enough when I would be working that it's what my mind thinks of whenever I hear the song. I love my job at Jamba and it's a fun place to work.

Or another example. For me, the song "Soak Up the Sun" always causes me to replay the time I was waiting in my therapists office and the song played on the stereo. It was the first time I heard it since I was like 5. It kinda gave me the chills :P

What about you guys? Do you think it's a good/nostalgic thing, or do you think it could be painful for you?

Yeah. Quite a few Owl City songs take me back to a few years ago when I was a gymnast, still hung out with the other kids in my neighborhood, and frequented a different forum. It's a neutral nostalgia, I guess. I mean, I was super embarrassing, but there are some good memories too.

Most of Eminem's stuff can do that to me, but some specific songs are:

"Oceans"
by Hillsong

"American Noise"
by Skillet

"Canon in D"
by Pachelbel

"Lost It All"
by Black Veil Brides

"Take Flight"
by Lindsey Stirling

Paradise, Coldplay and Clarity, Zedd. Both those songs take me back to probably the best, but saddest point in my life. I can't listen to them otherwise ill usually start crying.

Oh gee I have countless songs I'd love to name, but here's a few:
'Never let me go' by Florence + The Machine
'Not about Angels' by Birdy
'So alone' by Anna Blue
'There's a place for us' by Carrie Underwood
'Into the open air' by Julia Fowlis
'Different worlds' by Jes Hudak

And they're mostly nostalgic for me.

Songs often take me places. Whenever I hear a song that was popular on the radio when I was a kid I get nostalgic. Songs can also effect my mood on various levels -- aside from the feel of the song. There are certain songs that I don't listen to anymore because of other things that I often associate with them, and it's probably better off that way. I'm always giving my own meaning to songs and relating with their lyrics, so if I don't hear that song for a while I often feel nostalgic when I do.

Sometimes it's a good kind of nostalgia, and can bring a smile to my face, but it has potential to be nostalgic in a bad kind of way too.

oh wow...there's so many. Every time i hear Hero by Family of the Year it really gets to me cuz the first time I heard it I was with a friend and (long story) we got accidentally locked into a room and that's the song that was playing at the time. So many songs trigger specific memories of some event or who I was with. all good stuff!
