Im 14 and I want a girl friend, but not some of the things I have to do. Things like getting her a gift for her birthday or Valentine's Day is fine, but more of a long the lines of going to a prom or something. To be honest I hate proms and dances. So ya I'm pretty sure most girls in my school feel like it's their duty to go to every dance. I don't know why. So give me some suggestions, what should I do? Also I rather just go on a date like to the movies or dinner.

well, first off, are you interested in any girl in particular? if so (and if she is single) try getting to know her better to see if she really would be a good fit for you

I'd slow down a bit. To be honest, I was in the same situation as you just this past October. I ended up getting a girlfriend, and after two weeks, we were over. The break up was one of the most painful experiences of my life. Now I'm dating another girl. Be prepared for pain, and make the right choice. That's all I can tell you.

I have some friends are in a relationship, and yes they go to the dances, but they don't buy each other gifts for special occasions. If he gets invited to a party where he's supposed to bring a gift, he will, and you will have to do the same.

You don't have to do all that just to be a good boyfriend. A date like you mentioned, movies, chilling, is usually the best kind of date. And I think if you really found someone you liked, you'd be willing to put up with one or two things like dances once in awhile.
