i think we should stop letting vistors view the forums, everytime i'm on there is always like 10 visitors, that read the forum but never contribute back, i think its soo unfair

I disagree... People are a lot less likely to join if they don't see what's on the forums then if they do. No one likes comitting to something they know nothing about. I don't think it's a good idea. Besides, people are doing no harm by looking around. They are either going to join or not!

i prefer to look before i buy and thats what i did with vt. we are here to help, so if people can find help for their problem without joining, then so be it. often these guests become members in time anyways.

I was a guest on here for 2 months before I joined.

I disagree with not letting guests view threads etc because it could put them off coming back etc.

Yeah if you can't browse and check what the site is about and what is has to offer, then no one would join.

The goal of the site is to help teens and whether we helped them as a member or as a guest, then we've done our purpose.

However, people may be viewing the boards for the wrong reasons, thinking boards contain other stuff, which isn't the purpose of VT

but then if they do view the boards like that, then they will be disappointed and wont come, they then might remember VT and then go their for their concerns.

Over 4 years we've allowed guests to view the forums, I don't see why to change it now, that would be fixing something that's not broken.

The idea of these forums is to help people, there's no rue saying you must help other people if you are helped here.

I once were a guest viewing the forum, so i think we should still have visitors

I disagree too. I think that it makes a lot more sense if they can see what VT offers before they join. How would they know if we had Psych Ward on here if they couldn't see what it was all about?!

I was a guest for 2 years before I joined. I was prepared when I joined and already knew a bit about everyone here. I knew how the site worked and I actually waited until I turned 13 to join. Sometimes someone who is 11 or 12 has questions about these things, and if they're patient enough, they'll bookmark/favorite VT, wait till they turn 13, and then return to VT. Sometimes people also might not exactly be sure whether they want to join VT right away, so they kind of troll the site and try to get a feel for what its about. Once they decide whether they want to join or not, they will either register or leave the site. Sometimes it takes someone a matter of seconds to decide, other times it can take them a matter of months.

Many people don't want to have to make accounts for different things all the time, it is more convenient to have visitors/guests.

Really it'd be more like breaking something that's not broken. As has been said, if people couldn't view the site they would have next to no reason to join because they would have no idea what VT is like.

And plus it's not about 'fair' or 'unfair.' How is it unfair for someone to be able to see the site but not post? That's like saying it's unfair of you to look at someone's thread but not post a reply. Just doesn't make sense.

why would people join a site that they can't even read?
Even if they don't contribute, they may learn or get help from the information and advice already on the forums.

think of it this way. Remember back when you were a guest and just reading the forums. Would you have joined if you don't know what they were about? Or how good of a forum this is by seeing the forum before you joined?

Absolutely not. Most of our members here come here for puberty!

How is that a bad thing? Puberty is the most common teen issue next to the Ward here.

Judging by the amount of guests, even more common than the ward. It's good that people can see these things before they join because if they have a problem they know that it's going to be answered if they see all the threads in the past that have recieved great responses.
