View Full Version : I feel very self conscious about myself socially?

a strange question, but it has been bothering me for a while. I have always been very self conscious of the way I behave in social situations; you could probably say that I am socially awkward.

Whenever I try to start a conversation with a person one on one, it's hard to keep it going. I doubt myself while I'm talking, which makes me stop contributing new ideas and just agreeing with them. I begin to hope that the conversation will end or that someone else will come and join our conversation so that I'll feel less awkward.

Has anyone ever experienced this? How do you cope?

I don't but it is more common than you think. the best way is to get yourself out there more. practice makes perfect. start small and work your way up

Well I just try not to put down myself. I just noticed that I tend to start conversations at school or whatever with people who I have common interests with or we like the same music or video games and stuff. So I guess try to open yourself up more, don't worry about being what you think the other person wants you to be. Nobody is perfect and we are all judged differently.

Yeap. Welcome to social anxiety my friend. Well that may not be the best way to describe what you have, but I'm the same way. Nothing really helps me other than putting up a facade that includes mostly of nodding and agreeing with the other person to escape the situation as soon as possible.

Currently though I'm seeing my school counselor for it and she's been having me do these anxiety activites. I suppose they've helped some.
