I think the people who started the threads should be able to have limited mod functions such as: Delete posts, add poll option, merge thread, move it, ect.

I disagree. Some people may abuse that power. If you are in a debate, and you disagree, some people may just delete what they dont like. Not moderate, but just over power. Decent idea for people who wouldn't abuse it. But there are a lot of people out there that would misuse that power.

Admins/mods can take away powers, or add powers, is just an idea

I don't think we should be able to delete posts because you could take advantage of that and make people look like they've said something bad. We've seen it happen before in diaries.

I don't think we should be able to add polls because you should think of that before you start the thread

I don't think we should be able to merge their thread with someone else's because that could totally mess up someone else's thread

I don't think we should be able to move our own threads because it is the moderator's duty to manage that stuff

If you want any of the above to be done, just PM a mod and ask them to do it! Giving these privilages to regular members kinda defeats the purpose of moderators, and moderators are more professional and can make more appropriate actions than regular members would.

You accutaly can add a poll, if youdidn't make it a poll, i have done it here: http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=22056

I give this idea a thumbs-down. This system would be abused, and would cause problems among members, and staff.

It would be abused like others said. Plus, that's what mods and admins are here for, if you make a mistake you either edit the post or report it http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/images/buttons/report.gif

I disagree aswell, we have mods/admins etc

No this won't ever happen. Its the staff responsibility to manage threads and this is just potential for abuse.

Your suggestion gives any member power to reverse moderator actions or deleting important posts by a moderator in that thread. Also merging can mess up threads as already said.

Its a good concept but some people aren't mature enough to handle that responsibility.

I disagree however the ability to lock threads would be handy coz I'm fed up of seeing like 20 people say the same thing in one thread.

On another forum I go on...they have the locking feature for thread starters.

hmmm i disagree with it mainly... but what about being able to delete your own posts... and on another forum i used to go on. the starter of the thread could delete their own thread providing that there was no replies... but basically i disagree because as someone before had said, the started of the thread could abuse this power and then delete important messages from moderators

No because then this would lead to the system being abused. Only moderators/Global Mods should be able to do that.

So I disagree

but what about being able to delete your own posts...

We do not like that feature here....it would leave gaps and make quoting useless etc. if you dont like what you said u can edit it

Spam attacks would be 100X worse. Newer members have to understand that mods and admins can't trust everyone, even if you are a good person (both on and off this site), its the mods and admins job to delete improper posts and make any necessary changes in a thread. They earned their positions, tis why they have power. If you want to be able to do those things, be a good person on this site and earn a position as a moderator. Its nowhere as easy as it sounds, and being a mod isn't all fun and games.

on the other forums that i go to (which i meant before... sorry forgot to mention) you could delete your post if there was not another post after it, so it doesnt cause gaps... but if there is posts after it, then the 'delete post' option becomes unavailable... sorry a forgot to mention that
