View Full Version : Job Interview?

I had a Job Interview last Saturday. It went well, however they said due to my age I can only work certain hours (that's an obvious though given I'm 16 but whatever). The Assistant Manager said he would call to schedule a time to do a background check on Monday. Well, Monday came and I got no call. However, Monday was the beginning of a major blizzard here and Tuesday everything was closed. So, do you think he will call? He could have forgotten maybe. Should I do a follow up call? I'm pretty sure they wanted me because he did say he would call to meet Monday for a background check.

I would leave it for the moment. Given the weather situation, I would say that is the cause of the delay. He said he would call you back, so I would wait for him.

Ok. My mom is pressuring me to call him back though. She's like "do a follow up call!"

I really don't know. Some bosses like people who take the forward step and call back and others don't because you seem pushy. Go with your gut and do what you think is right. I know I'm sitting on the fence, but if it was me I would standby my first post response for the time being.

I personally want to stick around and wait but my mom is being pushy.

Always do a follow up call. I usually give them about a few days if it's important or a week if it's more of a casual follow up. Considering this was relatively important, just give them a call and say "hey, I just wanted to check about this background check that was supposed to be scheduled... I know the weather was bad and everything was closed so I'm sure you're busy but if you could let me know what to expect, that would be great", etc.

Employers do get busy but that just makes follow up calls even more important. For something like this, I think your mum is right and you should call in to get an update on what's going on.

If you're uncomfortable calling now, maybe wait until this coming Monday. It will have given them a week to sort things out and by then you should have gotten the call or, if not, you should be inquiring about it yourself.

It sounds like you got hired and you are an employee now, so I would definitely contact them if they haven't called you.

my advice is to call them today, like sometime this afternoon before they leave the office for the weekend (HR is Monday through Friday at most companies). definitely call and keep calling until you get someone who can tell you what's going on. if that doesn't work, put on a tie, show up in person and ask around about it. even if you can't reach the person who does the hiring, you can leave a note with your name and phone number and ask them to call you back.

yes, getting a job does require a lot of ass kissing (and so does keeping one).

Thanks everyone!

I think the ironic thing is I just got a call right now from the recruiter. She asked about the interview, I said what happened, she said I need to fill out an online application first and do references.

I'd do one quick follow-up call. You never know, he could be really busy. No more than one call, though. yOu don't want to seem pushy.
