A man in his 30s has been killed after a building collapsed at a construction site in Melbourne this morning, police say.
It is believed strong winds may have caused the accident which happened at 7.20am at a partially-constructed industrial shed in South Park Drive, Dandenong South.
Three-quarters of the structure's steel framework had fallen over, National Nine News reporter Tim McMillan said.
None of the other 15 workers on site at the time were injured.
Victorian residents had been warned to take safety precautions, with high winds well over 100km/h expected across the state from early today.
Northerly winds are expected to increase during the morning to average 55 to 80km/h over northern areas and Gippsland and to 70 to 100km/h over remaining southern and mountain regions.
Widespread gusts from 90 to 110km/h are expected across the region, with localised gusts to 130km/h over south-western and central parts of Victoria by late morning and in Gippsland by mid-afternoon.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Richard Carlyon said winds were expected to reach gale force by dawn.
"We expect the winds to gust to 120km/h to 130km/h (in Melbourne) tomorrow ahead of a westerly change late afternoon which will be quite squally as well," he told Fairfax radio.
"We will have wind all day, very windy conditions, but we won't see much in the way of rain all morning.
