My theory about those "out of the blue" times is that a girl or woman you are often close to (physically, not emotionally) is close to ovulation and giving off pheromones.

Back the original question 2-3 times a day is common and not excessive. If you feel like you want to j/o then as soon as you find a suitable time and place go for it and enjoy.
