Who doesn't want a class ring (other than people that have actually thought about it long enough to realize it's just a chunk of metal) ?

Anyway I'm a sophomore in high school and I only know of like 2 kids that have them and they're both seniors. Maybe it's just because they're so freaking expensive or maybe they just don't wear them. There's defonitly no lack of school spirit or anything. I actually go to the most prestiged of all 4 schools in the county (that's right, 4) so we're all pretty proud of the school.

My question is how many kids at your school have class rings and how many wear them daily? Do you think they're worth getting? And how many people splurge for the biggest and best customized one vs go for the cheapest and are just glad to have one? Should I get one now or wait a year or until I graduate?

Also, I'm friends with the owner of the town jewelery store, so I get everything at-cost. (At the price the store pays) which is wayyy cheaper than retail. Plus my mom said she'll get me one of the cheaper ones beginning of junior year just because I want one.

Or am I just thinking too much and there is no "norm" on this?

A lot of kids at my school have them or are planning to get them. The amount of people that bought the cheapest rings versus people that went all out is about the same I think. Kids that are in sports usually wear them more often than others. I'm planning to buy my class ring my senior year (next year) and I'm definitely customizing the shit out of it since my parents are paying for it :P

We don't do that where I live until university... that I know of. And I mean, I don't have any interest in getting one but it might be a nice memento if you liked your school.

I didn't want to pay money to even get grad photos done.

never heard of them but I would totally get a cool customized one if our school had them

I didn't even know these existed until now. They look kinda silly to be honest.

I have one but rarely wear it... It is valuable and you do not want it stolen. Guard well.

I, like most all seniors have a class ring and wear them with pride every day. We have only one style, so they are all the same. And they are expensive to wear just a few years, but a nice keep sake forever.

I didn't get a class ring in high school. They're very expensive, and are not something that I would really wear, especially just for high school. I would consider getting a class ring at the end of university, but they're also very expensive and kind of pointless IMO since I probably wouldn't wear it.

all the class rings I've seen were p.ugly and expensive on top of that. seems like an easy way for the school to make more money

The school doesn't actually benefit from them. The town jewelery store gets all profit from most of them unless the company they get them from gets a commission.

They're cool but too expensive for my taste, not like I can't buy it and people have urged me to but I might as well go to Sunglass Hut and pay a little extra for something I would wear more than the class ring. I guess I don't get the sentimental value of the ring since I've switched schools several times in high school.

A class ring is a ring (obviously). It is usually pretty bulky and has your graduation year, a few school symbols or mottos, your name, and a gem of your school's colors. It signifies pride for the school and they look pretty sweet in my opinion.
