Not sure if this is the right forum or not, mods please move it if there's somewhere better for it.

I was wondering what everyone thought of this news story from the BBC about showering at school? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-30796304 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-30796304)

No-one in my class ever showers after PE even though there's individual cubicles, personally I'm pretty shy and would rather just use a lot of deodorant than have to get naked in school.

Does anyone here regularly shower after PE?
If so is it open or closed showers?
Are you in the majority or minority?

At my school it is obligatory to take showers after gym, and they are open showers there are no stalls, so I guess i'm in the majority?

in middle school the shower room in girls locker room was where they stored all the cabinets and old desks and stuff. Tells you how much use it got.

HS some girls do shower after PE (including me) but it actually depends on how much time we get. Sometimes the coach will only give us like 6 minutes to change, so... then no. 10-12 minutes, yes. Its not really that big a deal. Again, some PE classes we do a lot of standing around. Others like in fall or summer where we run 2-3 miles, then yea.

We had school showers but since no one used them they took it out. It's just really uncomfortable and awkward.

We have to shower after PE most of us use the open shower room, the shy girls use the few stalls.

in my school we shower after PE and after sports events, there are different locker rooms so there are open showers and cubicles, i shower so i guess im in the majority

In junior high, showers were required even though nobody really needed them. In high school, they're optional. Some people use them if we did something outside and it was really hot out that day, but most of the time they don't. Most people will shower after sports games however. And our showers are communal.

That's a really interesting study. Most people at my school (myself included) shower after sports practice (we don't have PE). They're individual stalls but most people still walk to get a towel naked or change completely so it's not a big deal.

Nobody in my PE classes ever showers, probably because we never do anything in PE lol. But after practice everyone showers, in the open. It really isn't that big of a deal for us I guess you kind of just get used to it lol

At my school we all use the open shower at the end of our PE lesson. I wouldn't like to go to a school where all the pupils walk around smelling of body odour.

We are supposed to shower after exercise, but everyone tries to avoid it. The showers are gross and communal!

Luckily I've never had to experience this as I was home schooled. But for many it'd probably be uncomfortable especially those trying it out for the first time, it'd be a little overwhelming and probably be worried about being judged as well. I think all schools should be optional as I read some aren't even are optional. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to stink during classes but I'd probably just skip out on the shower. But that's my opinion anyways.

As a male, our things is all about and ego. In my school when we did shower (they stopped it apparently it was too expensive) they were open so clearly everyone saw who packing. If your junk was on point the word got around, as you would then become a majority. So have som confidence, show your stuff, and you may just rise above them other hoes.��

From what I was told, the lockeroom showers were permanently turned off in my high school ten years ago. In fact, the showers are now used as a storage room

Only time we shower is when were doing swimming in gym, though everyone has swimming stuff on

I come from a pretty shy family, my mum still tells me to cover my eyes if there's a sex scene on TV :lol:

I'd agree with the fitness part. I don't know if it's true or not but me and many of my active friends have no problem with showering with others, or at school.

You'll have to show your PE teacher the news story from the BBC and see what he makes of it. My dad was telling me that it was almost compulsory to shower after your PE lesson when he was at school.

Of course we shower after getting all hot and sweaty during any sports activity. We have open showers and if any one of the guys was reluctant to shower he is urged, strongly, by all of us to get clean. No one wants to be around a stinky guy. Only one or two guys a year have to be "encouraged" to shower. :lol:

At my high school we used to shower after swimming class because of the chlorine but everybody had swimsuits on and they were open showers. However in my school volleyball team most of use take showers after practice. Some shower nude or some shower with
bathing suits.

Very few people would shower after PE in high school. Mostly hockey players, because showering after hockey practice or game is still very common even starting at an early age. So most people from a hockey background are comfortable being nude.

Showers are obligatory but I think everybody would anyway, it's disgusting to put clothes back on after you've been doing sports. They're open, and nobody cares. Why should you care? I can't understand how some people in the forum can be so paranoid about appearing naked with people of the same sex.

For me, in junior high we did not have showers at all, but at the high school boys and girls have their own locker rooms for when we have the swimming unit in gym class, and for the guys at least, they are communal showers, but we don't get naked, we keep our bathing suits on and just kinda shower the rest of our bodies.

We do shower after pe in school, because nearly everyone of us have lessons in the afternoon. So it would be disgusting to sit sweaty in the class. Everybody showers nude and the the showers are open. I never saw a school gym with shower stalls.

Most girls at my school shower after PE as there is kind of an unspoken rule among us that you have to shower if you're dripping with sweat and smell like shit because it's disgusting if someone has to have to sit next to someone like that in the next class. After sports events where it's only the students who take sport seriously I think everyone showers which fits into the results of that survey. They are open showers and everyone sees everyone else naked and nobody really cares or is judgemental or self-conscious and that is the way it should be.

We had to shower after PE and there were open showers. Just a line of shower heads across the wall. We had 3 hours of PE and the coach would send us in 5 at a time so it was less awkward for sure. There was enough space that we weren't showering side by side but I will admit it was a bit weird at first but after the fist week, it wasn't horrible.
As for the Majority Minority bit it was required but I was in the Minority that wasn't ashamed or bothered. I was a big dude in muscle mass though the missing chunck always brought attention.

We shower after sports I used to hate it and sometimes not do it cause it was embarrassing but now I do it its ok. But I didn't like it when I was in year 7 and 8 and I didn't have any boobs or pubes yet it was embarrassing cos my friends did.

Pretty much everyone showers after sport, either in the open showers in the changing rooms or they go back to their rooms and shower. They're not mandatory, but people choose to shower.

We did have showers until a wall collapsed and paralysed this dude.

Strictly not a school, but same principle, when I used to do all kinds of water sports I'd use them and it could get a bit awkward with eye contact.

The one year I took gym, it was recommended but not mandatory as long as you kept your hygiene decent after a gym class. Some people had a limited time to get to class but I had a lunch period right after so depending on what I was doing that day, I'd take a shower and rinse off.

If you're nervous, bring a bathing suit. You may think "ew that's stupid" but no one is gonna judge you. It just limits the amount of time you have to spend naked in front of your peers. And then just shove it under one of those hand dryers for a few minutes if you have one or try to wring it out the best you can and keep a plastic bag in your backpack or locker to keep it in later.

Our showers were stalls though with a curtain. It wasn't the best but it worked and made people a lot more comfortable about showering.

In here some guys wash their heads but that can only work to cool them... We have showers, but the PE lesson is the last one so people hurry home or to catch a bus. Personally, I take showers at home as I swept every day standing in a bus crowding with students and working class all going from their morning shift...

It is optional in my school. I take showers sometimes, but not too often (I have to be pretty darn sweaty). They are both open and closed, in a way. There are different stalls, but they are all visible to the locker room, and there aren't any screens or anything. I am a minority for using the actual stalls, bc some guys just strip and wipe themselves down with a wet towel or something, so I don't know how to respond to that question.

My current school doesn't have a PE program, but at my old one we didn't shower at all. We had the showers, just didn't have enough time to use them.

Some parents argued that it could fall under the "against religion" area of the constitution. Other parents argued that their kids were uncomfortable about other kids seeing their dicks and stuff. So, therefore to settle this whole fiasco, they decided to make it illegal for a school to force the students to shower after gym and instead just give them the option to choose if they want to get nude in the locker room and if they want to shower in front of their peers.

I'm the shy-est kid in the world. And I got used to it. After you see a lot of other kids naked, you realize they all look similar and you really don't look at others that close. If I'm not really looking at them close, I'm sure they are not looking at me ether. (If we got to shower with the opposite sex, then I would really be looking close) I think kids and parents that are upset are over reacting.

Showers were never mandatory at my school. It's a good thing too because the guys at my school would never miss an opportunity to victimise a shy person about their body. I quit P.E because I hated sports and had no interest in attending it. I think it's important to allow people their privacy if they aren't comfortable.

I would shower but in all throughout school I've never been told by a teacher to do so, nor has anyone else, so I haven't done it. However, ifwe were told to I would definitely do it.

We have open showers and two cubicles at school and have to use them after PE lessons. Usually I use the open shower, only when my butt is still red from a spanking, I use a cubicle. In soccer there is only an open shower for all and if a newbie wanna shower in his undies or not taking shower at all, we strip him naked and give him a cold shower. The next time he will join us and shower naked, too. Boners are not a problem for us and most of us pop one, sooner or later. :D
