Well I take bio classes because I'm a forensic science major... so I have to. But when I declare whether I'm going to concentrate in bio or chem I'm picking chem in a heartbeat. I prefer chemistry to biology.

didn't learn shit in biology class so I'm sort of self-taught in this area. post your biology questions ITT and I'll try my hand at it.

Genetics were the only interesting part.
And I learned that the mitochondria are the powerhouses of a cell.

It's called reading books, watching documentaries, not forcing students to learn something against their will.
I was a lot more interested in science when I was a kid discovering things for myself than being forced to take it in high school.
Although sexual biology and education should be mandatory, end of story.

And those who are not personally interested in biology are denied to know basics of our existence? School should teach only what you choose to learn???

I'm talking about high school. We all learn the basics as early as kindergarten. Schools in North America are very narrow-minded about what courses students are and are not allowed to take.
I got forced into years of subjects I had no interest in or didn't want to learn in school. I learn science on my own. I hate math but I learned enough in elementary school to do my taxes and yet I was forced to continue until I had the quadratic formula memorized.
I'm not saying certain classes shouldn't be mandatory for a certain amount of time but I was forced to take something like biology until the eleventh grade and actually all we learned was the same stuff I learned in the fifth grade with bigger words. So trust me, we know the basics of our existence one way or another.

That might explain why so many americans have problems with evolution? If you dont know basics of evolution, you cant understand biology, and vice versa.
Same stuff with bigger words? You mean same stuff with more details? That is called learning.

Uh, no, Americans have issues with evolution because in highly religious states, it's considered wrong to teach it in school. (And I'm not even American.)
You're not going to completely fail at life if you don't know all the details of something. Some people just don't like biology and some people don't like the structure of a classroom and can't learn that way. That's my point.
