View Full Version : New Russian Driving Laws

Russia has listed transsexual and transgender people among those who will no longer qualify for driving licences.
Fetishism, exhibitionism and voyeurism are also included as "mental disorders" now barring people from driving.
The government says it is tightening medical controls for drivers because Russia has too many road accidents.
"Pathological" gambling and compulsive stealing are also on the list. Russian psychiatrists and human rights lawyers have condemned the move.
The announcement follows international complaints about Russian harassment of gay-rights activists.
In 2013 Russia made "promoting non-traditional lifestyles" illegal.
This is pretty... yeah. I don't even know what to say about this. Russia has imposed some pretty outlandish driving laws, banning transsexuals, transgender people, gambling addicts, and other groups of people with "sexual disorders," such as fetishism, and exhibitionism, from driving in an effort to lower motor vehicle deaths. Not quite sure how that's going to help, but I guess now they can say they tried...

That doesn't even make sense. Putin is insane. I'm not sure how much more the international community will allow. Shaking my head.

well they didn't do anything over gay rights before or for the invasion of Crimea.
if the world hadnt become so spineless we would have invaded them by now

Probably doing them a favor, cause drivers in Russia are scary.
....I'm only kidding, before someone gets their panties in a bunch. :P
Seriously though, this is disappointing news. Sexuality isn't a mental disorder, and I'm pansexual and a much better driver than some of my straight friends.

Russia is where basic civil rights go to die.

I saw this a few days ago. Can't say it surprises me.

Putin may be insane, but he's done a damn good job of keeping his country running...well until recently of course. Besides even if others *cough* U.S. *cough* or his own people pressure him into resigning, he'll probably return as the next James Bond villain. Or something like that. It'll beat having (what I'm only guessing is) a depressing personal life.

No, it's because we're smarter than Napoleon and Hitler.

his point is that the -40°C winters and nukes might make your invasion plan go less smoothly than you'd expect.
but even assuming you managed to successfully invade and hold Russia, you'd then need to justify the expenditure of American lives and money that such an action would require. the internal policies of a foreign country aren't our concern and certainly not a valid basis for sending a few thousand Americans to die in the godforsaken Russian wasteland. you're more than welcome to stand in front of a Russian tank if you like, but don't casually dismiss the impact of war like it's a football game. GO TEAM FREEDUM!

wow. it is ok when people say bi or gay is wrong or whatever based on religious or whatever convictions they may have. that doesn't hurt me. but how can anyone in their right mind think something like that determines driving ability? it is getting scarier and scarier to see what Putin is doing

Honestly.....what the fuck?
That makes nooooo sense. Putin is a smart man...but this....just fucked up his rep. Who cares what people's sexuality is or gender? For all we know Putin could have been a biological woman and got an operation done to look male. For all we know he could have a vagina. Overall this law, makes less sense than a 6 months old way of talk

I think the rationale behind this move is to make life in Russia for homosexuals as inconvenient and unpleasant as possible in the hope that they will choose to self-deport to another country -or- if they choose to stay, forcing them to take the gayness underground. I don't think Putin actually cares if a homosexual gets behind the wheel, but revocation of a driver's license is just a convenient way to officially annoy. he sees them as a problem group (they are) but even in Russia having them all rounded up and put on trains to Sweden would start a politically disastrous shitstorm about another Holocaust and whatnot.

I support Putin's policy in trying to save at least last traces of human's moral , and taking care about healthy society based on familiar values .. But these laws , I don't really see some important connection with moral saving or conservatism , this law must be made by some drunk Russian politician .. But hey , they know the best what are they doing , and people support it .. By last census measurement that was done in September , Putin's popularity is more than 85% .

It just baffles me. like I said, it is fine if one does not agree with homosexuality or trans-gender issues based on religious grounds or whatever. that's fine, I understand and respect it but honestly. and what does taking away drivers license is going to do? it will make those groups want to have an even bigger voice against the government (though it is Russia and there is not much to protect them there as it is over here)

I explained the most likely reasoning in my post above. not being able to get a driver's license is a pretty big deal. Putin's hoping that Russian gays will get fed up with the red tape and move somewhere else.
that's certainly what I'd do in that situation. I'm sure some will try to play the hero taking the bigots head on (there's a gulag for that!) :lol3:

The Iron Midget is at it again. Just fucking stop selling vodka during late night hours and make drunk driving punishable by a lifetime loss of a driving licence. That's gonna help a lot more than this.

I do not agree that the mental disorders in question merit loss of driving rights.

Agreed (although this is only for transsexuals). The more straightforward way would be to simply make sodomy, transsexual surgery, cross dressing, etc. and promotion of such illegal.

welp I had a reply typed out partially in response to Arkansasguy's above post but after proofreading I realized it would probably cause a flame war to break out so...I Ctrl+X'd into a .txt if anybody still wants to read it lol
I will say, if my theory proves correct and gays in Russia start moving, it'll probably be to Sweden because they're all enlightened and stuff.

It's the only thing I hate about Russia. Their lack of empathy towards the LGBT.

I know quite a few trans who now live in Sweden or one of those other Scandinavian places.
But boy oh boy if you are a Woman driving in Saudi Barbaria.
