Hey guys, I was in kind of an awkward situation last week at school. My friend and I airsoft quite a lot and we were given time off until the end of the class in health to talk. So we talked about how new arenas had opened up around the area and how his trigger spring had broken, size of bbs and etc... Nothing really new we talk to friends about going out and airsofting a lot. Anyway that day we had a substitute teacher that had never really taught at the high school and over heard the thing about his spring and thought we were talking about shooting people or something. I got called down to the Deans and there was our school detective in the room, they said I wasn't in trouble or anything and they had already had a conversation with the other kid i was talking to during class. So I didn't get in trouble or anything they just had to check i wasn't a shooter or anything, I was wondering if I should bring up this conversation with my parents? I mean I didn't get in trouble, and should I go back to the Deans and see if this is on my record? Don't want it ruining my future...

I think purely for the reason of giving yourself some peace of mind you might want to mention it - not sure how your folks are personality wise but I would describe it the way you mentioned it here - a conversation that got taken out of context and spooked some people.

I'm guessing after the teachers spoke to you and your friend they realized it wasn't what they initially thought it was and that it wasnt a major issue. Also it doesn't hurt to ask the Dean whether this will go on your record (my instinct is that taken into account the circumstances and the context - no) and mention your concerns.

Hope this helps...

this. even if your parents are not the type to freak out, if you mention it, you can never be excused of trying to hide anything if it came out for some reason. after all, they said you were in no trouble. it is not going on your record but if you want to ask them just to put yourself at ease, they will have no problem answering your question

^^^ these two are smart people.

I agree bring it up to your parents, and also ask the Dean if you're worried. I don't think it will since their initial thought was wrong, but I would definitely, you know unless your dream job is a burger flipper at McDonald's :P

Are your parents easy to talk to? Would they freak out if they knew? I'm guessing they know you airsoft so its probably not a big deal. I would tell them if they wouldn't freak out.

I understand why hearing a part of discussion got them worried, but do you really have "school detectives" in american schools??

I think you may be over reacting a bit (no offence) but im sure it was really awkward, my teacher overheard my friend tell me hitler wasn't even that bad and she agreed with him oml that was awkward. tell your parents if you want but I wouldn't just forget not a big deal :)

If you didn't get in trouble, there is very little chance it's on your record but ask the dean if you're worried.

As for telling you parents, if you're not worried about talking to them, go for it. I probably wouldn't bring it up to mine. Or maybe I would. It's one of those things that if you aren't in trouble and it was a misunderstanding that it's not really that important.

I dont get it... How could a school detective do something useful about that? A school psychiatrist would sound much more practical.

Because the detective needs to gather evidence on the matter and, if necessary, conduct an arrest if it seems necessary. A school psychiatrist isn't licensed or qualified for those things.

This happened to me, dude you're not in trouble. Tell your folks if you want, but the way the principal explained it to me the law says when an adult overhears stuff they're not sure about they have to report it for safety sake because it's the law. So that's why the cops were there. If you were in trouble you'd know by now.
