Ugh, this is like Mac vs PC.
They're both fine. The reason people prefer one over the other is because there are certain things for their different needs. Really, that's it. One is not better than the other.

Why pay so much for an IOS (Crapple) phone....When Android is free open source and the phones are cheaper.

It doesn't fucking matter. A phone's a phone. If you can afford a smartphone you should cherish it no matter what it is.
I give no fucks when it comes to OS, I like all of them for different reasons.

Android customization/root/dev/variety/non-proprietary seems generally better for me.
I have 4.1 on my phone, I think.

Having owned both Android and Apple phones, I can say that both have their pros and cons. Apple is a little more refined and is a lot more simple to use. Android, on the other hand, provides a ton of customization options and there's a variety of different phones running Android software, varying in prices and specs, but, Android can also be a hassle to use sometimes.

A lot of the new features included in iOS 8 had been on android long before they came to ios such as:
~Type suggestions
~support for 3rd party keyboards
~notification actions
etc...

Android, I've talked to people who like IOS and so far it the "glamour" part that makes them like IOS. Hell, one friend told me that his friend screwed up her galaxy s [insert some number I forgot] trying to customize her phone and so people shouldn't have that much freedom. It made me laugh ha.

I've only ever had apple products, and I quite like them. But I wouldn't have anything to compare to. From what I've seen, as my friend is a complete tech nerd, android is better in terms of customization and such. But for me I'd say iOS is just perfect.
