So I'm working on an art project for VASE (If you're from Texas and take art then you know what I'm talking about) and I was inspired by a Willow Smith song called 8 (its a chill song btw) and one of the lines from the song is "your self-conscience is not conscious of poisons you're ingesting." The song itself is asking the question "are you really you?" in the sense that are you being your actual self or is your "self" a construct of other people's expectations of you? I'm trying to make an art piece that reflects this idea, but I want to know what you guys think. :)

From a philosophical, artistic, and (I hope) your POV it's a good idea

This question reminds me of something we discussed in my psychology class this semester. The question "Through whose lens do you view yourself?" was asked, and it really got me thinking.
It is human nature to view yourself through the lens of your peers, however this is generally based off of assumption. The opinions and expectations of our peers have a lot of weight in our lives, and in our decision making. This is not the case for everybody, but for many people this is true.
I think this is especially true for teenagers; teens are very impressionable, and often worry about what their friends will think of them if they do not conform, or do things that their peers will find impressive, or cool.
I stay pretty true to myself, but my opinion of myself may not truly capture the essence of "me," seeing as everybody views themselves differently from how other people see them.

That is so true I think your art piece should have mirrors

Haha I already have an idea though. I would try to explain it, but it would be easier to show it when its done. I have to finish it by the end of February and its pretty big (36"x24"). I'm hoping I didn't bite off more than I can chew lol
