How to Approach/Talk to this girl..?

We're both at the same college, with the same friends so we're normally around eachother a lot. We haven't really talked to eachother but we've been in this group together for a while now and I've come to realize that I like her. How should I go about approaching her without it being awkward after all this time of no speaking? How could I get her alone, away from the group?

begin by saying hey. try to strike up a random convo. get to know her. the first time or two, it may be better with other people are around so you have an excuse to be with her. then, if you two are clicking, say hey , I am getting some coffee or dinner, want to join me? and go form there
