I do not know what to think of this city anymore. I live in NY, and was just in the city yesterday. It's upsetting to see stuff like this. The first time they did it a week ago I understood their grief, but now it's like come on stop being children. You are here to keep this city safe regardless of race. This is just so embarrassing and unprofessional. It must be hard for de Blasio, who seems to have no authority over them and is trying so hard to keep this city united.

Acting like children? They're doing what he has done to them. He has turned his back on them and abandoned them. People somehow get this idea that all cops are white racists. Look at the two killed and notice neither are white. It's made a race issue not by cops but by dumbass arrogant civilians who don't know shit.

You don't even live here, so you don't even know. This city has been chaotic and the NYPD needs to do their job. I don't think they are racist, however, I do think they were unprofessional today. Being the mayor of NYC is not easy, and he doesn't have to do shit for the force because they are supposed to be their own division. They are here to protect the city, that is there job. I can bet you majority of the police officers voted de Blasio into office, and now they want him out. Ironic, isn't it?

Then where'd that come from?

Awe good argument. Cause it's not like I can follow the news and every thing. Obviously nobody else can answer then.

He does ow them something as they are essentially under his control. I don't blame them for wanting him out after they've been abandoned by their mayor who is supposed to be on their side.

Sorry, but the news isn't the same as being in the city in person.
I guess your sort of right, but the reason I have so much support for de Blasio is after the Reign of Bloomberg. Bloomberg was a nasty billionaire who would do anything for power. If only you knew this city under Bloomberg. However, I do not think de Blasio owes the cops anything. That's just my opinion and I respect yours.

Well then I don't know what you expect cause most people don't live there.

He owes them support he's their mayor. Stand behind them. Or better yet stand side by side.

Jiust saying, your ONE of those "dumbass arrogant civilians" your not a cop. You don't know shit about this ether, you know exactly as much about not as the average Joe, come down from your high house, it must be cold up there.

Anyway, so correct me if I'm wrong, the mayor, made a statement about interactions with police and minority's, something that has proven to be poor, and the police force throw a tantrum? Because that's what it seems to be to me, correct me if I'm wrong.

Whatever this is, its a pathetic thing to do, simply childish, and don't anyone dare say otherwise, this is nothing more than an act of childishess, in the civilised world we at least try to act with a hint of professionalism

Your pro cop, I'm anti cop, I see an interesting opertunity here, providing we are both willing to play nice for once.

Like I said, this, to me just seems like a pathetic act from the NYPD after they came under slight critisizm, like a child. Its as if they want to blatantly ignore the problems involving the way they act around minority's. But that's just me. And YES, I do agree that there are a lot of idiots out there that will jump on this without understanding, I may be one of them, I'm still trying to get a grasp on the story from a decent news agency.

What are your opinions on this? How do you (as I know you will try) justify the act of the police department?

Im actually done here but I'll leave you with this that explains my views and why I support police

The sheep hate the dog. He looks too much like the wolf. He reminds the danger is just beyond the relative safety of the fence.

The wolf hates the dog. He knows the dog stands between him and his prey. It's because of the dog he is lean. The dog is why the wolf walks in darkness.

The dog knows this. Unfettered he stands watch, ready to do battle. Despite that he is unwelcome, the dog is ready, at a moments notice to give his life in defense of his flock. It is simply who he is.

Very few people can be cops. It takes heart. They don't get payed enough to die or get shot at. But they do it anyway. It's not some bullshit job at McDonald's to make a few bucks. It's a passion.

Soooo....forget the fact that they have a serious problem with minority's that they refuse to fix, and forget the fact that they act childish... You support then simply because they are the police, it's you, what did I expect?

I'm not, I have said in this thread already that the majority are good, I can get you the quote, it's you who's ignoring the problem. The problem that the mayor pointed out, and the NYPD childishly reacted to.

You don't have a leg to stand on in this conversation.

I totally agree with you. The mayor made a personal statement about something he said to his son about the police. However, that's personal, and the police shouldn't be reacting this way because the mayor has a right to be afraid of the police as his wife is of darker color and his kids are mixed.
By the way mods, not arguing here, just stating what the mayor said.

As far as I see, this is the NYPD throwing a tantrum after someone DARED point out that they where fucking up. Like children,

Think about it, these are the people thatbrile over you, that decide if you live or die, these are the people with almost unlimited power over you, and they are stuck in a fucking g playground mentality of "they said something mean so I'm ignoring them"
'Tis a fucked up world.

And don't bother reasoning with mods, they will simply blindly enforce rules regardless of anything, like reasoning with a tree or the wind, they just ARE, and you won't be able to change it.

Don'yt get me wrong, the police are a forcew for good, mostly, it's just that the media only ever shows the bad, I'd bet for each bad story theres 3 good ones. Fpr instance, my last interaction with a cop, he let me off a ticket, complimented my bike jacket and wished me a good day, most cops are ool people, but the media doesn't wantr us to think that way.

Anyway, if you want to keep the conversation going, move to Pm, the mods don't like us having conversations outside of ROTW, because you know, conversation and exchange of ideas should be limited to specific areas for....some (?) reason.

Please; I'm not in the mood to argue with you yet again. They were childish, that is my opinion, and you won't change that. You will use any excuse to defend the police force even when they have done wrong. I always accept when I'm wrong, however you do not. The only way that you will ever advance in the world is if you learn to stop being blind to obvious things. I am fully aware that police officers go through hard times (as I have already said, my uncle was a police commissioner and I have other family members in the police force), however it does not make them any more special than the rest of us. There are many many good police officers; no doubt about that, however the ones who do wrong should be punished, just like civilians who do wrong.

The mayor has been on the outs with the NYPD ever since he expressed sympathy to the family of Eric Garner, a black man killed by a Staten Island police officer. . quoted from Daily Mail article.

I don't know the full story, but from my understanding, as the mayor has mixed-race children and a black wife, he would have been conflicted. Also, if the fact that De Blasio expressed his sympathy towards Eric Garner's family made the NYPD mad, then they are being childish.

There have been various different issues involving certain police officers who have done wrong, and you've defended them. Some of the people you have defended are killers, who escaped the justice system. You constantly try to make it look as though I'm a cop-hater, or someone who believes that the majority of police officers are bad. I have said multiple times that there are many good police officers in the world, and there are a few bad ones. The ones who do bad should be punished like civilians who do bad. That's the only point that I try to prove.

For the last time, I'm not in the mood to argue with you. Goodbye.

All recent events were justified or accidental. That's obvious. He was detaining garner. Simple as that.

I mean in all honesty does it really matter? Do you think he really cares? Its like someone giving you the silent treatment. Literally every cop knows him. But do you think he knows any of them, now I live in that area so I know about the abundance of cops and it would be hard .. this that and the third but he doesn't have authority over the cops at all unless you are a poliece chief or higher on the ranking you have no authority. And the fact that all they did was turn their backs should be appreciated because if this was a few years back they would've beat him and his family. Not all cops are racist and racism will never die (I don't support it) but we must learn to minimize the miniscule people and focus on what is most important in life love and loving each other

Asked by Officer Liu's family and Commissioner Bratton not to turn their backs on the Mayor, NYPD does it anyway. The cops turning their backs probably wouldn't care to learn how to pronounce Officer Liu's first name, but they'll use his death for this. An excellent example of their hypocrisy and disregard for the lives (and deaths) that has happened so far.

I think you under estimate the brotherhood between officers. its the same as soldiers. you may not know each other personally and there may be some you flat out don't like but in the end you know your are all there for the same reason and you know that when you call for help every officer in on that channel will come, lights flashing to help you.

i do not condone them doing it at the funerals but i do think that the mayor hasnt been fair or stood by them.

I had a feeling that this would happen.
Turning a funeral into a publicity stunt. Speakers and everything.
I thought funerals should be personal. Family and friends gathering to honor the person. Not some people making a statement. Do that outside of a funeral.

I don't care if they turn their backs but to do it at another officer's funeral? It's just totally disrespectful. I hope they feel bad.
