My mom talked to me about seeing a gyno soon. Is it true you have to spread your legs super wide? anything you can compare it to?

if you want to know how far you have to spread your legs i recommend you search google images for "gyno chair". you won't find anything offending but you get a pretty good impression on what's going on.
when i went to the gyno the first time i was pretty scared, too. but eventually it was less awkward than i thought. it might be due to the fact that she's already quite old and she seems really "professional" about it. i'm not sure if i had felt as comfy being exmined by a male doc :P

You do have to open your legs, but googling seems better as I can't think of anything to compare it. It's awkward at first, but you wear a gown and aren't really naked, so that makes you feel safer.
Remember you aren't the first patient they see, so don't worry if you think anything you have can impress them or anything, it's their job and usually they talk to you so you are more comfortable :)

You do have to spread your legs, but you'll get a much better idea if you Google it and l think there's an actual video of a gyno exam on Youtube. A breast exam is a good idea at the same time too!

I saw a video, her feet were on these things and her legs were spread really wide

And you obviously shave/trim/natural/stripe or whatever you do down there...if you think you need to do something different, don't worry about that. They've seen it all.

That's it, then. It's necessary for the examination, don't worry about it.

Where your feet go are called stirrups.

This, it doesn't matter if you're shaved trimmed or a full bush, your doctor has seen it plenty of times before.

Yes you have to spread your legs just like when having a baby. Don't worry about it

Yes, you spread your legs really wide for them to have easy access and view to your vagina, but don't worry, it may be slightly embarassing and awkward, but think about the fact that he/she is a gyno and examine tons of naked girls everyday.

I was scared and embarrassed. My Dr. was a female and she talked to me during the exam. Yes you have to spread your legs.

It's actually not that bad. I have a kind of deformed right labia, so I had to go for my first check up a couple months ago to see if it was cancer. It wasn't, my gyno just told me everyone was different and not to be ashamed of my body.
At first I was scared, but my mom had been going to that office since I was born, so I knew they could be trusted. I got a younger woman who I could relate to and was very nice and funny, the whole checkup was actually kind of calming and I wasn't scared to go back anymore. All the people in the office were also very nice, I never felt uncomfortable or self-conscious.

Have you seen Madonna on Hung Up? Well, much less, so don't worry ^^
Btw, the OP probably did it already.

They put your legs in stirrups, so you're generally physically comfortable. I had a really awesome gyno! While she was doing her thing downstairs, she was talking to me the whole time about things unrelated to what she was doing. It distracted me from the nerves. All in all, it's really not that bad.

My mother made me go to a gyno (her gyno, actually, which made the whole situation that much worse) about 2 months ago! Not sure why she made me go! And yes, you have to spread your legs open wide. The same way a regular doctor wants you to open your mouth wide to look at your throat! My gyno was a female which made me feel a little bit comfortable. She was cool and explained everything she was doing. It wasn't too bad of an experience, until the gyno asked me, with my mother in the room, if I was sexually active!
