View Full Version : Urban Plan?

So I've been tossing around the idea in my head of becoming a Site Planner for an Urban Plan firm or a Transit Agency (who designs road corridors), as we did a huge UP project in Economics and our team won because of the site plan lead by yours truly.
I was just wondering how I would get about "getting" there? I know UCLA has a graduate program, but before that I need to complete community college and my undergrad to do that. But I don't really know what I should major in to help me do well in the field. I was thinking Economics and/or Graphic Design (either as my minor or major), but what do you guys think?

I'm pretty sure city planning is an actual major at a lot of places. Graphic design isn't a bad idea but I'd recommend like civil engineering and general CAD too if you want to go at it from that perspective. I honestly have no idea how the cc system works simply because I'll hopefully never deal with it, but I'd talk to a guidance counselor or academic advisor for some better advice. You can get there plenty of ways, it's just all about your perspective on it

Civ engineering, take a nigh course in CAD and try to get an apprenticeship at an engineering firm.
I've been studying engineering for years, in the UK at least that's the best thing you can do.

I'd suggest getting in contact with the CC you intend on attending and speak to someone in that department that could advise you. They might have partnerships with other universities that may easily allow you to transition and seamlessly transfer your credits and earn your degree.

Yes, TAGs (transfer agreement guarantees) are huge here in California. The community college I'm considering of going to does have a TAG with some universities I'm interested in, regardless of what path (CAG, Civil Engineering, Graphic Design, focusing on photography and becoming a photo teacher) I end up taking.
I just wasn't sure what major i should get into, and, well, I still remain unsure... :P but good for me I still have time to think about it!

Ah, ok, then that's a plus for you. You can take some different into courses your first semester and see how you like them, make your decision from there.
Good luck!
