View Full Version : Is being a little shallow wrong?

Hey, so as time goes on, the girl I am dating is getting closer to me and I am learning a lot more about her life too. We spend a lot of time together but still have a handful amount of awkward silences throughout each day we hangout with each other. I like her personality where she is open minded to new ideas and doesn't shoot them down immediately. I find once we start talking the conversation flows well, but once the topic comes to an end, things go silent for awhile unless I can think of something to actually talk about. We've discussed these silences over Facebook and both know it's uncomfortable for the both of us, even with that knowledge, I still can't keep up a conversation for that long.

To my question. I have been thinking and I don't know if I am being judgmental or wrong or if this is normal. I am the kind of guy who plays games and likes to chill and be comfortable with regular jeans, a tee shirt and a pullover hoodie. Which in my opinion I find a turn on if a girl wears comfortable clothing such as the basic blue jeans, or track pants or even leggings. Same goes for the tops such as tee shirts, tank tops or rocking the sweater game with a zip up or pullover.

The girl I am dating, or as she refers to me as her "boyfriend," only after one date, has a different taste in fashion than what I thought. We attend a catholic high school so the uniform masks her taste in clothing. But when we have the occasional civvies days (Street clothing) she wears things like bright red jeans with long sleeve, knitted sweaters. To me I find this kind of a turnoff. Insult me if you will on this, but this is just my opinion on this. I expected a girl with her personality to have a more laid-back fashion sense, one that I explained above.

I think I am being shallow on this, and I am not sure if this is normal for someone or not. It's only been about a month since I've started dating her and just this week I've started looking at the reality of this. I come here looking for a second opinion on my thoughts, is this something normal for a regular guy to have oppositions on or is it just me being very judgmental?

Is the way she dresses really that much of a deal breaker for you?

From I have gathered you seem to be way too nitpicky. But that's just my two cents.

If it's her preference i don't think you should interfere with it unless it is detrimental in some manner.

It isn't necessary that the person you love agrees with you on everything. There are bound to be differences and i feel you should love and respect them as much as your similarities.

Besides, i think you should assess what matters to you more: her choice of clothing or her personality?

This is the perfect answer. You're being a bit too picky.

Some variety can't hurt no? But anyway it's ultimately your choice. Do you think that clothing is more important than her other aspects?

Not going to insult you, don't worry. Hey, maybe some people find fashion sense very important. I don't agree with, but i respect your opinion

Like those fashion majors, eh? I knew a professor who graded on how his students dressed.
