View Full Version : How to convince parents for a piercing?

I've always wanted a septum piercing (just wanted to switch up my appearance) so I asked my mom for one and she said no, but then later on she said sure. I went to my dad (so I can make sure both of them agreed) and asked him but he said no. He said "it looks ridiculous when you're out in public, and you look fine the way you are". They don't speak English very well, and it might be tough to explain it to them about it / how it's my body this and that.
How can I convince my parents to let me get one? For those with piercings, have you ever went to a piercing/tattoo shop under the age of 18? (possibly with a parent) and what do they do? Did you need an ID even if a parent/guardian comes along?

I'd say your best bet is to do the following: offer to pay for it yourself, (if you haven't already) show that you're mature enough to have it and offer to earn it some how.
It could be that your parents see it as a waste and something that will hold you back in life. In that case, you'll just have to wait until you're 18.

I didn't even ask my parents for their consent on any of my piercings. When I got my ears pierced in 7th grade my mom just laughed at me, lol. Then I started stretching my ears then she got kind of mad bc they were too big for her liking, so I took them out at a 0G. Just the other day I got my nose pierced w/o asking, that she was a little mad about, but she got over it haha. Just depends on how strict your parents are.
Also, you don't need an ID if you're going w/ a parent.

I'm not a piercing or tattoo person at all. I'm not against people that want them or want to express themselves with body art. However, I think if they say no then that's final. They have their reasons and you should respect that.
Only thing I can suggest is for you to show proof that you are a good son to them and you are well behaved and stay on good terms with them. If not, then as long as you are living with them they have complete control over that decision.
Whatever you do don't go behind their backs and get it done anyways, it's best to just obey and agree to disagree for now.

they don't have to let you if they don't want to. looks like you better start counting the days until your 18th, brah.

well 6 months ago when one of my best friends died, I got their permission to honor him by getting his name tattooed on me.
I guess you could try explaining how times are different when they were kids ( to some degree). I do not know what nationality they/you are (they don't speak good English?) so it may be harder depending on the culture. but they were your age once and did not want to do what their parents wanted them to do (or wanted to do things their parents did not want them to do)
just explain how much it means to you as a way of expressing yourself and be willing to pay for it with your own money (I had to pay for my tattoo)
best of luck to you
