The festival of light in Lyon is one of the three biggest festive gathering in the world with 4 millions tourists coming to the event. This celebration was a way to thanks Mary mother of Jesus for protecting the city of the plague in 1643, even if nowadays most of the people celebrate this without thinking about religion ....
The city counsil now puts on professionaly run performances. But in all the region of Lyon people do continue to illuminate their windowswills with candles put in clear stained glasses the 8 december evenings and that's truly beautiful *o*. Did you heard of this before, have you ever been there ?
