Is a septum piercing supposed to hurt longer than a day? I've jarred the stud (yes, stud- my parents technically won't let me have a piercing there) a couple times, and it was a bit hard to actually pierce to begin with, but I've made sure everything was sanitary and so on

There wasn't really any blood. There's been a teensy bit of crustiness and leftover blood, but I've cleaned it off twice today. The piercing was done yesterday.

And no, I won't be taking it out- in the event of infection, taking it out would create a cyst in my nose, and that could lead to encephalitis. Yeah, not going there. (highly unlikely that that is what this is- my body has inflammatory issues, so it'll take longer for the swelling to go down anyways.)

But anyways, I've just been ignoring the mild discomfort best I can, and putting ambesol on after I clean it (it does hurt after the movement I have to do to get around the stud, but it IS a brand new piercing.)

My questions:

-How long is pain/swelling from a septum piercing supposed to stick around?
-What can I do to make the swelling go away?
-How long did it take yours personally to heal? (If applicable)

I googled and found this article (http://www.bustle.com/articles/37873-septum-piercings-101-everything-you-need-to-know-before-you-go-under-the-needle), and after I read some of it I saw that it could answer some of your questions, hope it helps :)

Of course it's supposed to hurt. That's why they put rings in bulls' noses. And pigs.

But a piercing of a human's septum doesn't hurt eternally. No piercing does. There has to be some sort of limit on how long it's supposed to hurt, and I'd like to know what it is @[email protected]

I'm trying, but I currently don't have the money, so it's gonna take a week or two :P

I'm trying to get bioplast first off too, just in case I need an MRI anytime soon

Septum piercings can hurt for up to 3 days and then be sore for another several days. By some they're considered the most painful piercings, so that's why.

As long as it's not still bleeding, you can take an ibuprofen (try to avoid Advil though) to help with the swelling. If it is, don't do that, and wait for it to stop. The ibuprofen will cause clotting which will make it bleed for even longer which you don't want.

My septum is not pierced and I don't think I'll ever get it done (not a fan of the look on me), but they're supposed to take a really long time to heal completely, up to a year. It'll hurt when touched for a few weeks, possibly more if you play with it. Septum piercings are really delicate and could be rejected so be careful and clean it all the time and never touch your nose unless you just washed your hands.
