Does anybody else feel this confusion. I'm the type of person who drums, taps, sings. I need rhythm to survive and other people get annoyed by it. I don't understand. Not pissed off just curious why some people can't stand background noise or in particular humming, drumming ect. Can't work without some sort of rhythm once in awhile

It is just a matter of preference. Some people find it harder to concentrate on their work with some music in the background. It may distract them and hinder them from doing what they want to which is why it could seem annoying to them.
Personally if i was doing some work which required little use of my brain, such as recreational stuff or homework i would listen to music. But if i was doing some mental workout, studying for exams or writing my novel or heck even writing a post on VT, i would turn off the music. I guess for me its because I don't like clouding of thoughts in my brain and I require silence either outside or inside usually.

I hate to say it on a thread like this, but I am that kind of guy.

It's hard to explain, but it's really annoying. And it isn't the music problem, it's both the sounds you are producing and the movements you are doing. Kinda like the people who can't stand when someone keeps swinging their legs back and forth. And humming is just an abomination it itself, it's not like a clean musical note filled with melody, no, there's that coarse throat scraping that comes with it too. Never mind that I already didn't want music in the background, but humming is even worse!

There's unfortunately not much to do about this. Either they or you move away or you stop doing what you're doing.

And unfortunately, it is not a preference :/

hahah yep. Basically if this makes more sense, the way my mind works is when I get bored, my mind wonders. If I'm doing something I love than I can definitely concentrate and stay focused but if It's something that I have no interest in I need something to keep me on pace weather that's drumming, singing, something with rhythm. For example places such as school, doing homework, studying. Also, if it's something I have no interest in I have to take frequent breaks, outburst. Weather its a jam session on the desk, jamming out to music, crashing on the piano. ect.

That's not music... it's noise

Nothing is more annoying than someone taping their feet for no particular reason. I can understand why many people hate it.

I know I can find it a little difficult to study with music going sometimes

My brother Vincent loves having music when he studies, and it can get somewhat annoying.

BECAUSE IT IS THE SINGLE MOST ANNOYING THING YOU CAN POSSIBLY DO!

(On a more serious note, noises like that generally piss people off, so stop it, now,)

Drumming and tapping is annoying AF. Actual music is not. I love listening to music.

What does bother me though is when people don't like loud music. Don't they know it sounds better? :|
