This should sum it up.

Signatures: Members are permitted to advertise their personal websites or blogs in their signatures. You are responsible for making sure any content in your signature is SFW (safe for work). You may have any text or signature image that you like assuming it is not hurtful, racist, or slanderous towards another user, person, government, or group of people. Below is a simple list outlining what is and is not permitted in signatures. Note if you post an external link, the content of the site or blog must follow VT’s rules (i.e. no pornography, cracking, etc...)

Acceptable Content Includes (but is not limited to):

Tumblr
Flikr
Instagram
Blogspot
Livejournal
Pinterest
Quotes (assuming they aren’t slanderous)
Any other appropriate text or images may be posted. If you are unsure about any text or images, ask a moderator.
Unacceptable Content Includes (but is not limited to):

Facebook
Twitter
Pornographic Websites
Illegal Hacking/Cracking Resources
Illicit torrents
4chan (or any other “chan” site)
Youtube videos and links, including links to channels
Ask.fm or anyother similar sites

Any kind of offsite contact information (which includes prompts to it), including (but are not limited to) the following:

Skype, Oovoo and Google+
KIK and Whatsapp
AIM, Yahoo Messenger, Google Chat, and ICQ
iMessage addresses and Blackberry Messenger PINs
Gamertags (PSN, Xbox Live, etc... [note these are permitted in the about me section of your profile.])
Personal Contact Information (i.e. a phone number or address)
Gorey, vulgar, racist, or illicit text or images
Any images of self harm or any triggering images in general
Any sexual content or remarks (i.e. penis size, interests etc.)
Obscenely large text (i.e. Size 6 and greater)
Asking people to “add you” or to “email me”
If a moderator sees any content which is not permitted, they will send you a PM giving you 24 hours to remove the content. If you ignore this warning, a Senior Staff member will remove it for you and you will be infracted. Note that Senior Staff members may edit your signature first, and then PM you explaining why.

You can also Contact A Staff Member (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showgroups.php) if you are unsure whether you have a link that you feel may be against the rules.

On a side note, I do believe YouTube links are allowed in signatures. I have seen members, alone with staff members, who have YouTube links in their signatures... (Correct me if I'm wrong, Staff)
If they are allowed I believe it is fine as long as you have APPROPRIATE videos and not INAPPROPRIATE.

The rules have been clarified as follows:

Embedded YouTube videos. Links themselves, as long as the video complies with wider side rules, however, are fine.
Links to promote a specific YouTube channel.

So embedding videos with the [youtube] tag isn't allowed, but you're allowed to link to specific videos, assuming they follow other site rules (aren't excessively violent/gory, for example).

_______

As for the OP's question, you're correct. KIK not allowed to be posted anywhere publicly, but assuming your Instagram is SFW ("Safe for work") you have it in a signature

Part of it confuses me too, you can show your Instagram and Tumblr, but not your Twitter? They are basically almost the same, no? However, I have seen several signatures that do have links to some of the sites that are listed in the "not allowed" section, but I think it comes down to whether it's appropriate or not. I have also seen signatures that link to offsite content and other websites such as other forums and personal websites where personal contact info is listed too, and that is listed in the "not allowed" section too.

So... my guess is that as long as it's appropriate, you aren't trying to steal someone's identity, make someone look bad, expose someone, or anything like that it should be fine.

EDIT: Just saw the admin post right before me. Still don't understand why Instagram and Tumblr, but not Twitter, and why some people have links to other personal websites.

That's because of the nature of the sites. Sites like Facebook and Twitter are not allowed because they are designed as means for off-site contact, and we do not allow sharing offsite contact details as a way to protect our members (disrespecting such rules and being attacked has already happened before, too). Instagram and Tumblr, on the other hand, are designed to primarily be photo sharing/blogging websites, and the conversation is a secondary feature (if included) on the site.

I figured it had to do with something like that. I don't use any of that crap other than Facebook so I wouldn't know the difference. I tried using them, and I was confused and it seemed complicated. I am not getting that old now am I... I:
