I'm not really going to think about it now... And in the future that will probably will be the least on my mind if I have a kid... If my wife [this is assuming I am married to the mother of the child] wants to have the child circumsized, so be it, if not, well... I don't really care either way.

There are pretty much three reasons I hear to support infant circumcision, and here's why I think they're all flawed:

1. Healthier - I hear this a lot but specifics are rarely cited. "Lower infection rate" is the most common, but that's illogically vague. Cutting off any body part will eliminate the chance of that body part having a problem. Duh. A University of Washington study a while back showed that the complication rate is different in something like 1 in 1,500 cases. Most of those complications are really trivial anyway. That doesn't come near justifying routine infant circumcision. Not even in the right stratosphere.

2. Dad is/tradition/common where I live - Pre-emptive surgery to prevent the unlikely possibility of minor teasing seems crazy to me. As for tradition, I'm not sure about other people, but I don't think about my dad's penis much, let alone my grandfather's.

3. Better than having it done later - Better my kid be unhappy with being uncut, and be able to fix it, than be unhappy with being cut, and be stuck.

Those are all pretty much blown away by one opposing reason: it's his body, and I want him to be happy and comfortable with it, so the more he has choices about it, the more likely that is.

If my kids want this for themselves, the option is always open. There's nothing wrong with circumcision if it's a choice. But it will be their choice. :)

Same here. My dad's cut (was done at birth) but we (sons) are not. It's just as healthy as long as we keep it clean.:D

Nobody should be cut at birth. Anyone should have the right to decide. When you leave a baby uncut, he can allways choose to have himself cut later if he wants to. When, however, you circumcize a kid at birth, there is no going back.

I honestly don't know. On the one hand, it would be nice just to get it over with, and that way he would never have any problems with it, and he wouldn't know what he was missing, plus he wouldn't have to go through the agony of being circumcised as an adult (should a problem arise). But...on the other hand I'd like him to be able to make the decision for himself, I was cut at birth, and I'm not too happy with it now, and I wouldn't want my son (if i have a son that is...) to feel the same way.

So I'm on the fence, the pros and cons are about equal. Though I do think that in that case it's better to leave it as it is and if a problem arises then there is always the option of circumcision.

Soooo...I guess in a very roundabout way I'm against child circumcision.

dunno really, I wouldn't want my kids to have to get it done later in life due to medical reasons...srly being a 13 yr old boy and not being able to wank isn't any fun. If I'm living in the US then probably would get it done so that they fit in, if living in Europe, then probably not
