View Full Version : Wisdom Teeth

I got my wisdom teeth taken out yesterday. Thanks to the Vicodin, and the anesthesia wearing off, I slept through most of the day and the night, waking up periodically for water, jell-o, and another dose of painkillers. Today, my cheeks are swollen (I feel like a chipmunk), but the pain is manageable and I was even able to eat some meatloaf at dinner (though my jaw is realllllllly stiff so I had to take ridiculously small bites). I don't think I'll be eating anything totally solid for a few days still though. Anyone had theirs out already? What kind of things do you reccomend in the semi-solid foods category? I'm already getting sick of pudding, jell-o, and applesauce, and I'd like some options over the next few days until my jaw is closer to normal. I can do some chewing, but I have to take small bites and my jaw gets tired sorta quick, so if I can chew it with my front teeth or mash it around with my tongue, that's best... I don't want to be stuck with jell-o for a week!!!

Another question: for those of you who, like me, had a doctor who doesn't suture the sockets (or, I know sometimes they'll only suture the bottom and not the top), I have a question about irrigating the sockets? I just tried for the first time, and I rinsed one out no problems, but somehow on the second one, I got freaked out, felt really light headed, my mom told me I looked pale and to sit down, she'd do it for me in a second. I'm normally not squeamish at all, I wasn't bleeding or anything, I don't know what happened, just the sight of it freaked me out. Any tips on getting over this as I'll be dealing with it for about the next two months?

well i dno about the second one but for the semi-solid food... how about investing in a blender...? you could make most food liquid wiv one of those lol, put a lot of fruit in to get a fruit drink thing. or meybe you could try Pot Noodles, they are just noodles with pits of peas and other stuff, come in many flavours, the noodles are easy to chew and to prepare them ready to cook, all you have to do is peel off the lid, pour hot water in (from the kettle) wait 2 mins then stir, wait another 2 mins then add the sachet of flavouring (if its beef and tomato i add ALOT of extra tomatoe sauce) then stir and eat :) they very nice but i dont know about healthy though... :) just think of foods that are very easy to swallow/chew

Try mashed potato, or even sweet potato, that's nice tasting, and is soft. Try milkshakes (diet-your teeth are what matter i.e.NO DAMN SUGAR). Dare I say Ice Cream, but anything sweet raises your seratonin level in the brain, which give temporary euphoria, i.e. pain killer. :P
