They are called soap operas but my Aunt calls them serials. My Aunt and Grandmother on my fathers side they watch them religiously. I used to watch Young and the Restless, but I don't understand the plot and can't relate to what those people go through. I don't understand it and they worry about on each episode is dumb to me.

Also I go to class when they come on so I would watch them when I come home and I can't be bothered doing that. lol. :)

I never know what I'm supposed to catch up on so I really haven't exactly tried to watch soaps. I watch Teen Dramas though and most of them are pretty much like Soaps.

They say soaps are based on real life events and such, but there is way way too much drama going on, I think if real life was anything like a soap then we would all be fucked. For example, in Hollyoaks, two new characters recently joined the cast & they were both related to characters already in the show and they were to be married and a week or so after they both join they get married in the village and it just didn't seem life like at all.

I don't watch soaps like General Hospital, The Young and the Restless, Days of our Lives, etc. However, I do watch the show Revenge for example, which could be considered a primetime soap opera.

I don't watch them, it's wayy too over-dramatized. They're quite a big thing here in Brazil, though. There's at least 4 new soaps ongoing at a time, and there's always more re-showing...

Unlike many shows, a lot of them are appropriated to Brazil's past, showing how the culture was back then. Sounds interesting, but the soaps end up being so silly...

The only people I've met who watched those things were married women over 40, an even then my mom doesn't watch them. I personally find them to be the worst kind of entertainment. (The British ones are probably the worst, due to all the teen pregnancies and heavy racism present.)

My mom loves General Hospital. I sometimes will watch it with her when she gets home from work.
