Need party advice please

So here's the story: I'm a 16 year old "Nerd". I play video games a lot, I get really good grades and I've only during the past year and a half I'd say started going out with friends.

So because of my social status/position, I do not know many people in my school really well (though I know my friends) and I've been invited to a friend's party. My problem lies in the fact that I don't know around half of them, (almost all the ones I don't know are girls) and the ones I'm acquainted to are jocks, and there is alcohol in the party.

The main problem is with the alcohol; because I don't know many of the people there very well, I don't know their habits with alcohol and what they're like if they do get drunk. I'm going to ask my friends which ones of them are going to stay sober (though only a couple of GOOD friends are going, most of my other good friends aren't being invited), and I'm going to ask my dad for advice on it as well (most likely at least). I'm planning on staying sober, and I have at least one friend as well. But I'm just afraid of what may happen, I'm a little bit paranoid with certain things like this.

So my main questions for you guys are:
1. Should I go?
2. Any tips for staying safe if i'm going?
3. Has anybody dealt with a situation like this and gone to a party before? If so how did you keep safe?
4. How high are the chances of somebody getting high and causing problems?

Advice would be much appreciated, thanks guys :)

Edit: I asked the hostess (my friend) and she said that her friends don't drink too much (about 1-2), but any advice for a backup plan or staying away from trouble will be much appreciated :)

be aware of your surroundings at all times; if you see anyone starting to get belligerent, go to the other side of the room; if at any time you feel uncomfortable, leave the party. these are the rules my dad laid down for me and its helped in keeping me safe.

be aware of who is around you and what they are drinking

not really because i drink myself so i don't care too much. if i know people i don't get on with are going then i try and keep my distance from them.

not that high, i know why you're paranoid but honestly it'll probably be fine.

YES! Always do and try to have fun.

Always make sure you feel comfortable where you are at, if you don't then move somewhere else or get completely out of there.

I'm always in the midst of the action so safety is not really a priority to me…

Almost zero, stuff like that almost only happens in the media, just take care of yourself and you'll be fine!

not much. don't worry too much :)
if you're uncomfortable at the party, you could leave anytime you want.if not, just enjoy every moment of it!:)
