So this is just a thread to say "WHO HAS EXPENSIVE TEXTBOOKS"
Because I just got my book list for year 11, and because we are changing to the new course, I can't get the secondhand stuff.
Well okay, not too much harm, maybe, but I cost the books out and it comes to 805.73 for 6 courses. That's more than a hundred dollars per course.
So how much are your textbooks? Are you crying from the money that you may/may not have to spend? :P
And who knows good ways to get cheap text books OTHER THAN Book Depository and Secondhand? Because expensive textbooks.

The Gov. gave us our books for freee :D
When I was in middle school, I had private education, and secondhand books still cost us 80 bucks each, for like 6 o 7 courses. Are you sure you can't get secondhand? If its some new edition just get the old one.
My prep school, which was obviously private, also charged extra for their books, but I got a 100% scholarship madafakas!

WHAT. I CAN'T EVEN GET OUT SCHOOL LAPTOPS PAID BY THE SCHOOL. We have shitty laptops and the year above didn't have to pay but then school was like "Oh, budget cuts, here, have bad lappys you have to pay for, Class of 2016"
And yeah, they super extremely highly recommend you getting the new ones, because it's not just new editions, they are new courses because the curriculum has changed. (I think someone was like "Let's just screw up the Class of 2016 by changing everything for them")

Wait, you need to buy laptops, and crappy ones at that? What kind of school is that!? Can't you use your own?
Here the curriculum is updated every three years, but nothing really changes save a few minor details here and there. Couldn't you get older books and, in the case that they show their age, share a book with a classmate? We shared a lot of books when we forgot them in high school.

Ye-up. They do that "We don't like you because you don't have a school laptop, you are the minority" kinda thing because without them, you can't access the schools shared drive and that applies to bringing your own laptop, which can't connect to the schools wifi.
And to be honest, I'm not sure how much the new course is changing...:/

If the course is updatex regularly, there's probably very little change to come, Perhaps you could talk to the teachers to learn more about the change and previous alterations.
As for the laptop... maybe being in the minority isn't always a bad thing, eh?

Yeah, I'll probably ask my science teacher about the chem books...considering the chem takes up $215...:/
If anything, my laptop has just been a distraction for me, but even though it's shit, it's the best thing I've got considering my other laptop is a netbook from 5 years ago. I think you can put two together and find out how slow it is.

thanks for shopping at College Inc., suckers! you want fries with that?
lmao but seriously, one of the main reasons I'm strongly considering skipping the whole college thing. I don't feel like buying into the racket.

There's one book that costs about 150 euro. The rest are all between 50 euro and 125 euro. I'll have to get different ones for next semester.
I haven't bought a single one. I don't intend to.
On the brightside my college does have a massive library and subscriptions to like every academic journal out there. That's pretty fun.

Thats a huge amount - We get ours supplied I think some students get help with laptops as well.
I wonder if there is anyway you can advertise for the books Free wanted ads maybe like Craiglist or something.

Depending on where you live, Amazon is a good idea. I bought a book or few from there.
I hardly ever buy anything from the school bookstore unless it's my only option. It's highway robbery and I'm sick of it.
Usually if your school has a bulletin board in the common room or whatever they usually advertise books for sale. Good luck on buying your books. :)
