Those yellow boxes are missing again...

Hi, again, Mods,

In case you didn't know this, please let me tell you that those cool little yellow boxes that would show up when you put your mouse over a person's name in the "Recent Visitors" area to your page...have been missing for a couple of days now :(

They'd show the date and time that the person visited your page, but I'm not seeing them now. Has something changed?

Please let me/us know.

Yesterday. We updated our version of vBulletin, I forgot to put it in the code. Just haven't had a chance to do it yet, I will either today or tonight.

Give them some time, The staff can only do so much, they do have lives off of VT and their lives are more important than fixing a little box. They'll have it back up and running according to Mike ( ImCoolBeans ) Just give him some time and be patient :p and I didn't notice that till today so XD I'm kind anxious to see that back soon hopefully myself :p

Because I believe in giving credit where it's due, I wanted to thank...whoever (ImCoolBeans? Someone else?)...for, at last, bringing those boxes back. I saw them suddenly appear just now for the first time since I asked about them some weeks ago, so thank you very much!

Sorry it took so long, some other things came up on the site and we ended up moving server hosts, which is a bit of a project, so it got put on the back burner for a little while.

I have never known about the time/date thing at the *recent visitors* box at all. All it shows is the last visitors but not when they visit. So...im confused.

Could you post a screenshot, Mike so I can see what I am missing?

tbh, tho, I just wish you hadn't added your closing comment in your previous post here (November 17th, 8:35am) because I didn't think it was nice. My asking you and the other Mods about this wasn't a matter of "survival", only a matter of something suddenly not working/being there that had been for quite some time, and my asking that it please be fixed.

I appreciate priorities and such, and am glad the feature is back, but thought I was bringing this to your (collective) attention nicely and didn't much appreciate that particular remark as part of the response. Just saying...

I'm a non-staff member with the experience of being an admin, so I can be a little less discrete with this! I think you should, just for a moment, consider your comment:

The air of expectation implied in this quip that the staff were late to effect the change you desire is somewhat sour. When Mike fairly inferred what you had said, you then go on to suggest that

It may not have been nice - but you are talking to volunteers who are working and even paying to provide you with a free service. They're not like your teachers at school, or your parents - there is no obligation towards you. They have lives as well, and they are not here to heed at instance to your every command. If I was Mike I would have been far less discrete in displaying my frustration at the expectations you implied in your comment.

Anyway I won't derail the thread any more, just wanted to say my peace. And since the time is nigh, thank the staff for their continuing work - the site seems to be running faster than I have ever seen it! : - )

First, it's a sign of maturity to apologize for one's mistakes, so thank you, ImCoolBeans. I appreciate, and gratefully accept yours. :)

Next, Donkey, what you said to me here would have been more meaningful had you quoted what I said in full, and not decided to, instead, selectively edit my remarks so as to imply I said something far different than what I actually said...especially as I chose my words with great care.

So, let's review, shall we?

Now, maybe you prefer to phrase things differently from how I'd do so, but I honestly don't know how my post which said (1) "Just wanted to note", (2) "gentle reminder" and (3) "FYI" deserved the vitriol you tossed my way, especially when none of these words made it into what you chose to quote from this post, and which, if they had, would doubtless have shown a different tone than what you strongly suggested I showed...but didn't.

I'm sorry that you didn't like what you thought I wrote, but the next time someone tells you upfront that something will happen "either today or tonight", and it doesn't (for reasons that would otherwise be foreign to you, up to and including perhaps having regrettably fallen through the cracks and been forgotten), I wonder...would you want to follow up like I did, after giving even more time without seeing the promised result appear, or would you rather just sit back and wait...and wait...and wonder just what's been going on...but perhaps never finding out?

I prefer the appropriate follow-up, so that's what I did and, fortunately, aside from ImCoolBeans' one regrettable faux pas at the end of his reply (which he's since graciously apologized for), the response that I got was just as informative and insightful as I expected it to be. ...and, now, with the actual return of those boxes that I'd asked about, my original concern has been dealt with.

I'd call that a successful effort for all concerned...all, that is, but you, unfortunately.

If only you'd understood at the outset all that I was trying to do, then maybe you wouldn't have needed to post your earlier comments here...just maybe...
